A - Restricted (a retail customer) B- High Net Worth (a more sophisticated investor) C- Sophisticated investor (typically independently certified) D - Self-certified sophisticated (made personal declaration) Think I'll go for E - a sensible investor (which is why I don't have any money invested with this bunch of clowns any more). Think I must be going for F!!! Not one penny more and just waiting for all the DEFAULTS yes DEFAULTS to pay back whatever I can get. Not sensible enough for an E as it took me a bit longer to understand what a mess it all is. Interested to know what happens if I do not tick a box.

I would suspect everyone is going to be a retail client ... the question being asked is what kind of retail client There is an option under FCA regs to be considered an elective professional client. Anyone with a relevant background in finance (and particularly if they are FCA regulated) with the required capital could ask to fit into that category if they wished and the counterparty was willing. I've asked and been given this status when doing bridge lending with some lenders that are only willing to face professional counterparties (examples: West One Secured Finance or some private banks). I agree, however, that this question is essentially assuming you will be a retail client. Unless you feel a need, it's better to go for retail or retail HNW rather than retail sophisticated.

Hmm. I don't think I qualify for any of them 😭 Yeah, me too. Don't seem to have a category for someone who has pulled out of everything apart from those Lendy has locked them into, and hasn't bought anything new for over a year. Come to think of it, that's probably a sign of a sophisticated investor.

What exactly are these questions in aid of? Why should I tell Lendy anything about myself? How will my answers affect my money on loan with Lendy and future returns? To be honest, it's one damn thing after another with Lendy at the minute and i'm on the verge of pulling out completely. The pipeline is a sorry state of big DFLs that have not even filled their previous tranches yet, I feel that thy have vastly overstretched themselves and are now grimly committed to these big projects. I suspect these questions originate in the first place from the FCA registration process. Lendinvest went through a similar exercise last year and because I could not in all honesty label myself a sophisticated or high net worth investor I effectively barred myself from their website.

The definitions are all very clumsy and patronising.
I know plenty of 'qualified' financial advisors and professional investors who don't know their a*se from their elbow. It always comes down to the same thing: "Oh it's all so complicated and boring. Best just give us everything and we'll deal with it for you for a small fee that will add up to a huge amount over 20 years... we won't however guarantee anything and will take the money regardless of performance - thanks xxx"

Love to, but (for obvious reasons) polls can't be edited .. you can only start over. Can't even fix typos, much less add a new item.

High net worth (prior to investing in Isle of Wight and the large fortified house) That’s hilarious. Funniest post I’ve read in ages. I laughed out loud 😁

None apply to me since I have far more than 10% of my net assets in p2p so I will be clicking skip every time.
