PS. I don't think I've updated my LinkedIn profile for 15 odd years. Since it only launched 05/05/03 you must have been a very early adopter!

I think a little more Occam's Razor, and a little less tinfoil hattery, would improve both this place and "Frank". These days this increasingly needs to be adopted by society at large, never mind a couple of small forums which have, at most, just 500 genuinely active users.

We hear the message on KYC loud and clear, thank-you for all the comments and explanations.
In the OP we said it was a longer term objective, so rest assured, KYC will not be coming to this forum any time soon.
It's certainly true that there is no obvious contemporary model for a public access forum which requires id verification before posting. But that in itself shouldn't be a barrier to wondering (aloud) whether such a model might work, and what the pros and cons would be. Possibly the solution would be to trial such a concept on a new brand / domain in parallel with P2PIF at some future point.

A semi-relevant article in the Independent today
which begins
Digital IDs should be brought in to end online anoymity that permits "mob rule" and lawlessness online, the security minister has said.
Ben Wallace said authentication used by banks could also by employed by internet firms to crack down on bullying and grooming, as he warned that people had to make a choice between “the wild west or a civilised society” online.
It is fairly superficial journalism, but clearly some thought is being given on the subject by the government.

But isn't most of the bullying etc taking place on Twitter where if I'm not mistaken people do tend to use their real names? Certainly Twitter is used a lot by the sort of political world politicians frequent and they often bare the brunt of people's ire. I think there is something different about sitting behind a screen and meeting face to face. That said, I still would like a KYC here. Something inbetween DDC and a full on lending syndicate might be what a KYC regime would encourage and it might be beneficial for all who join.

On the other hand ordinary people do not want to be identified and possibly targeted offline.
