'02 Jul 2018 The non- Bankrupt Personal Guarantor is still remaining unresponsive'
Let's give credit for some good news occasionally, rather than moan about those poor borrowers who are unfortunate enough to cease trading before the first repayment. So it's good to hear that one of the personal guarantors on this defaulted loan is not yet bankrupt. Really positive stuff. Remaining unresponsive probably means that he/she is on a long holiday, and will deal with it among a pile of post when they get back. Unresponsive is definitely not in the sense of the Norwegian Blue, or anything like that.
Does anyone else have anything positive to say? No griping or whinging on this thread, please.

My last 5 FC comments have all been pretty positive;
36005 (default) - A recovery payment has been received and will be distributed today, 16210 (default) - A recovery payment has been received and will be distributed today, 4004 (default) - A recovery payment has been received and will be distributed today, 18393 (default) - A recovery payment has been received and will be distributed today. Because the amount was so small, not all investors will have received a payment as we cannot distribute less than £0.01 and payments are distributed to investors proportionately. 3778 (Late) - A monthly payment has been received and will be distributed to investors.
My loans were all manually selected & subject to periodic weeding out of weaklings so I accept might provide a slightly better picture than the loanbook overall. FC is one of the few platforms where PG's are treated seriously IMO.

Yes - I believe that I can make better investment decisions with my money than any AI/black box solution. I did significantly increase my manual investment prior to Sept 2017 but over those subsequent 9 months my return has been just 1.5% (2% annualised) against my FC long term 5 years+ average of over 10%; so my own experience suggests that default rates have risen, due largely to a fall in loan quality, long term recovery rates are at too early a stage to have much impact yet.

I am seeing good monthly reductions in bad debt - and not so much in the way of new bad debts this year at all.

add in another £2.31 of bad debt repaid since the weekend - a further reduction in bad debt may make the Self-Assessment a bit more fun this year.

What you really want to be monitoring is your level of processing, late and downgraded loans. This will give you a better indication of future bad debts (which always operate on a large lag)

Agreed that looking at the loan book for processing, late etc... is one way to do it. It takes a bit of time though - and the bed debt and recoveries is a more concrete number which is what really matters at the end of the day. (I count all late loans as bad debt anyway - so that I don't end up with an overestimation or money/returns).

Assuming you are fully 'invested' another good and simple way to monitor is just to go to the sell page and note the figure of loans which can currently be sold - and compare with what you put in. You can correct for available funds and accrued interest if you wish. I find it quite scary.

that's what i typically do - since I don't want to spend too much time on the FC website now the lending is automatic.

I have money trickling in each month from my legacy account <bad debt only> Not much, but more than the interest I get from Ly each month and I have 3 times the amount invested in Ly !

The good news is that by the end of July I have made a very very small net profit this financial year having had a net loss up till now. That on 12k spread over 660 loans. One more default and in 4 months the sum lost will have exceeded the highest level ever over 12 months in previous years.
