The team have seen the light and that is being implemented, so lenders will be able to opt-out of having to use 2FA for logging in as long as they read the appropriate warnings etc. Any idea of a timeline for this? Also, looking at past posts I know this has been discussed for a long time, but in regards to withdrawals, when will the linked account system be starting please? Timeline for 2FA being optional on login is days not weeks. Timeline for the designated bank accounts is weeks.

I'm not at all keen on using third party apps but having the landline ring every time I want to log in is just not practical in a home occupied by more than one person. Someone said you need a mobile phone to do the initial set up with Authy, is this the case please or can someone without a mobile use Authy? AIUI you need a mobile phone to receive an SMS to do the initial setup. From that point on you no longer need a mobile phone. When you instal the desktop version of Authy you are given the option of authenticating via a landline in which case you receive an automated phone call. I've done it.
Where Authy falls down however, is that AFAICS it is not possible to register multiple AC accounts to the same device. I tried and failed. This is a problem for us, and may lead us to close one of our accounts.
If it can be done, please explain how. If not, can it be fixed?

This is the problem I have. I run 3 separate accounts from the 'big box' in my home office and unsurprisingly I only have one land line.

I'd certainly be keen to get it in place. It has been on the list for a long time. It is a security weakness where AC has been behind the competitors for a while now. (and a bit of a pain having to key it in every time).

It’s really quite unforgivable that AC have decided that I need to find three computers, three mobiles or three landlines just so we can all continue to use what we signed up for otherwise access will be barred at some vague point in the future. Time and time again, AC seem to make it obvious that they just don’t think things through. Not irritating at all. what about the sms option? could you register different AC accounts with the same phone number? if not get a free second phone number from an app like textme up, just make sure you don’t lose the number by keeping it active

I now can get into all 4 accounts I manage, via SMS codes to the same mobile. But it’s still a PITA and I’m counting the days until I no longer have to.

I'm not sure I like an opt out with warnings. It means if anyone did hack my account, I'd be even less protected legally because I didn't follow their advice and use 2fa all the time.
They should do what the banks do and allow a read-only login with 2fa only required for new bank details set up etc. It seems they won't do this because it is more expensive to implement than a simple opt-out.

Every other service I use that uses 2fa, either call smy landline (hmrc) or texts me (banks).
I have a windows mobile. My PC is a work laptop on which I cannot install browser extensions.
How will I continue to access my AC account?

If you choose to opt out of 2FA (as I certainly will) , does the system "remember" this for your next logon, or do you have to opt out of 2FA every time you log in ? I do hope not.

I do so hope your "It should be possible" is more than just an aspiration, chris . Because I have the same problem - 3 accounts managed from a single PC, 1 landline, no mobile phone. The desktop Authy would seem an ideal solution, if only it could be used on all three accounts. I won't be looking forward to having to manage two of my accounts by voice message , even with the promised relaxation of 2FA to critical transactions only (for which, BTW, s big THANK YOU for listening to lenders' concerns!) ,

But it is very much a matter of convenience for lenders and allows us to simplify some processes.
