I think you may have mis-read or maybe mis-thought! Chris did not say their increase in retail deposits was as a result of 2FA he simply pointed out they had a record week, it is you that has made that connection yourself. I thought Chris's last paragraph was crystal clear. Why else did he suggest that lenders approve of the new security measures in the same sentence as 'record week for retail deposits'? Yes, he uses the word 'indicators' meaning he's not sure but what else could that sentence mean except to imply there is a link? You still seem to misunderstand even what you wrote in response to Chris's original statement. Chris stated that retail deposits hit a record high last week, in my view he was indicating that the 2FA process on sign-up/sign-in has not affected in-flow of investors and their money. I see no indication that Chris tried in any way to suggest the "morally wrong" notion, as you put it, that new money is flooding in to AC directly as a direct result of 2FA being implemented.

Personally I am very pleased that AC have increased their online security. Given the amount of money some people have invested the old security needed to be upgraded in my opinion.

Wasn't a fan at first bu the 2FA is something we need rather than something we want.
This coupled with the withdrawal process does slow everything down but I can live with it.

Every other service I use that uses 2fa, either call smy landline (hmrc) or texts me (banks). I have a windows mobile. My PC is a work laptop on which I cannot install browser extensions. How will I continue to access my AC account? I also have a Windows Mobile and I'm disappointed that the Authy app doesn't have a UWP version that would work on all Windows 10 flavours (including Mobile). However, they do have a desktop app which you might be able to install on your work laptop, because it's not a browser extension, just a normal desktop programme. But in your case the most convenient solution may be just to receive the authorization code by SMS and not use Authy at all. This would only be a problem if your phone is regularly unable to receive SMS for any reason (e.g. poor reception). The Authy app is completely optional. A couple of banks I use have 2FA by SMS and it works fine with any mobile OS, since SMS is universal and not app-dependent.

No smartphone, just old Nokia, rarely used.
Google-chrome browser on one desktop and three laptops.
Installed Authy extension in the browser on the four desktop/laptops.
Set up Authy for one of our four AC accounts. Works OK.
Appears to be no way of adding the other three AC accounts. Are AC looking into this? (By the way, if an answer is found then there would need to be a way of renaming the individual AC authenticator accounts/logo, in order to choose the right one).
So, use SMS instead?
Possibly, but the old 2G phone doesn't work everywhere. When visiting daughter I recently discovered 2G has been withdrawn in some parts of Australia, all Australia for all I know.
Use a landline instead? OK in UK, but it would be an unreasonable impostion on our hosts in Oz.
Just my example of how this is going to be difficult to manage.

The other issue with SMS outside the UK is message delivery is rarely instantaneous. The now defunct Squirl p2p platform used sms 2FA and I had major problems with it in our Swiss office in Basel where my phone (UK SIM) continually jumped between roaming in Germany and Switzerland as we were close to the border, and SMS messages typically had ten plus minutes delay on delivery. I've also had problems with this roaming bounce in some of the Greek islands close to the Turkish coast.
Depending on how many actions need 2FA (that can not be opted out from), I'm likely to be using AC less in the future. The only action that in my opinion needs 2FA is changing the nominated withdrawal destination. Oh, I forgot, AC still does not allow you to nominate a withdrawal destination.
For those of us that view the short battery life of smartphones as being impractical for an emergency use phone, fortunately there are still quite a few options for buying replacement phones that are not smartphones, so I'm unlikely to be buying my first smartphone anytime soon. If I'm going on a weeks walking holiday I need the phone battery to be good enough to make emergency calls on the last day, not just on the first day.

That's a very reasonable suggestion, as soon as there is just one nominated destination account. So unlikely to be implemented.

p.s. the smartest phone in the world will run for several months if you carry it up a mountain in the 'turned off' state, until/unless you actually need it! I still carry GPSs which'll take AAs, but I haven't found a sensible phone which will do so for some years now. The upside of the smartphone is that, when/if I actually turn it on, it can do a good bit more than just scream for an air ambulance..

When the next 2FA update is released then you will be able to opt out of 2FA for up to 30 days on a given device for logins (governed by cookies, so if you clear your cookie you'll need to use 2FA on the next login). You'll always need to use 2FA for changing profile information (including password and communication preferences); making a withdrawal (even when we have designated bank accounts in the coming weeks); selling loan units at a discount; if you connect from another device for the first time. You also have the option of installing the Authy app on your laptop / computer if you are taking that with you. All other actions within the site only need you to be logged in, they do not require 2FA. Wouldn't most situations where you have a computer connected to the internet wouldn't you have power and be able to charge a phone even if it's using a USB cable to connect to the computer?

chris , will the opt-out capability for 2FA be made available before 2FA becomes mandatory - which you previously said would happen on 23rd July (which is now only one working day away).
If not, will you please consider delaying the go-mandatory date.
Yes. If necessary the go mandatory date will be pushed back. I can't see how to opt out. Could someone tell me ?
