Another glitch ( chris ) : yesterday my (BT - landline) phone was ringing all day at 40-minute intervals. I was away and my wife didn't answer it because it looked like spam. I came home to an infuriated wife telling me the phone had been ringing all day with a spam number. I checked the number and realized it was the BT SMS-to-landline service. So I answered it when it next rang, and it was, guess what, an SMS from Assetz Capital informing me that 2FA had been activated on the account. However, at that stage, 2FA had *not* been activated on the account. Later I experimented with activating 2FA using Authy, which is what I'm now using. All is well now, but I thought I should note here that, because I had set my house phone as the phone number when I first registered with Assetz, a glitch somewhere seemed to cause Assetz to send an SMS to my housephone. The pestering is BT's "fault" (it's a feature of the service, that it keeps ringing at intervals until the message is heard).

Now I am getting random phone calls with codes when I am already signed in. Your shiny new system is glitching! I've been receiving a code by SMS every time I submit a sell-at-par instruction even though there is no on-screen prompt to enter a code. I reported this bug to Customer Services this morning and they confirmed that a code should only be sent when setting a sell-at-discount instruction. I wasn't even doing anything, except maybe placing a small amount in the QAA. I'm new to AC so I was basically just exploring! But you are saying that we need a code on sign in AND for certain transactions, really?

chris / stuartassetzcapital, some feedback: Currently it's taking as much as 10 seconds from my entering my password before the Assetz SMS code reaches my phone, which makes the account log-in process even more tiresome. Whenever I've previously had to use 2FA (with Microsoft, HMRC, etc.) their codes have arrived more or less instantaneously. Can your SMS code sending process be speeded up, please?

I am also in admiration of AC's engagement here. With one or two exceptions, it really does put the other platforms to shame. That said, as with any changes to the user experience ('UX' for those in the know) _ and adding multiple steps to longing on and carrying out transactions certainly falls into that category _ will almost always generate a lot of noise and is a great example of when to convene a study group for feedback before any change goes public. (OK you might argue AC has a focus group here _ but it is public, and it will have generated a lot more CS / SD activity that might need be the case. It's likely some of the 'glitches' would have picked up on, too.) Maybe time to roll it back and, whilst not exactly start from scratch, reconsider the deployment and try again? Question for chris, please _ once I have 'signed up' to 2FA, is it possible to then opt out? (At least until the final implementation has been settled on.)

I've been testing 2FA with the SMS-to-mobile option and so far I'm very happy with it. In my view the increased security (for both the online activity and the telephone customer services) is most welcome and much overdue. I also tested the SMS to BT landline option for a few hours too but soon came to the conclusion that it would drive both me and the family mad, so sympathise with those without a mobile phone or reliable signal. I haven't investigated the Authy option yet. With the current implementation, the sms option is good for those who aren't quick with the keyboard / fingers. chris, is there any chance to increase the time limit for Authy code? AC is the only platform I have been using with 20 seconds window code, others like Microsoft has 30 seconds window. In my opinion, 20 seconds is too short for people to remember the 7 digits code and enter the code on a mobile device like a smart phone, especially for those who doesn't 'copy the code to the clipboard' and paste it the box.

I use the site on a daily basis and, as I use the MLA, I spend time reading investor reports during which I get automatically logged out several times. (I know a warning box will appear but as I'm reading on another tab I don't notice it). If I could extend the time till the system logs me out due to apparent inactivity it would be helpful. Otherwise I'll find 2FA very tiresome. If one pin was valid for say 30 minutes on the site for any number of logins it would also help

Something I have an account with does this but I can't remember which. Having one pin work for multiple log ins wouldn't help me because I'm getting mine by telephone call and have been typing it straight in so to have to write it down would be yet another step to have to deal with. Reiterating my vote for 2FA for sensitive transactions only.

I use Firefox or Chrome. Add-on 'Tab Auto Refresh' works perfectly. It will auto refresh (mine is set to 900 seconds) the individual tab thus you wont get timed-out.

My husband and I, both of whom have long-standing AC accounts, do have ancient Nokia and Samsung mobiles which we rarely use. Neither is Apple or Android. I have emailed AC to point out that (for example), even the much maligned TSB manages to offer the a landline alternative in order to authenticate certain transactions. There is a similar system with HMRC. We get fed up with the assumption that everyone uses and is addicted to smartphones. Really we have only one use for such devices - in emergencies. A very inconsiderate move from AC which is otherwise our favourite P2P site. Me to . Decided to move out and go back to stocks and shares. They'll be demanding pin sentry next.

Authy supports both desktop applications and landlines for 2FA so you shouldn't have any issues still access the site even without a smartphone. If you talk to the lender desk they should be able to help.

That's only 15 minutes. No, thats every 15 minutes. That refresh will update the tab every 15 mins, which means you wont get timed out after the website setting of 20 mins.
Trust me, I used to work at B&Q.
