If you are that concerned dont invest in P2P put your cash in a bank. Good luck with that. At least 2 of my banks have 2FA using texted numbers, as do HMRC when you declare the interest, and if you go for National Savings you might find that is the same, as others have mentioned one of my credit cards is starting 2FA for all online purchases from next month, another credit card already does for larger than average purchases. I would have thought a random Bitcoin market place was much higher up the list of things not to trust than AC, whether or not they use 2FA.

Give yourself a pat on the back as it would mean that I have to set up 2FA You can talk to customer services and request that they close your account. There is an established procedure for that, which may not be ideal but will avoid the need to set up 2FA if that's really such a priority for you. I don't understand your concerns around 2FA though. There have been a couple of posters with legitimate concerns due to overseas travel and the difficulty of remaining connected etc., and for those people customer services may still be able to help with some alternate suggestions, but outside of that your account is more secure with 2FA than without. You still have your password to protect you as your first factor, and if you set up the Authy app with your fingerprint for authentication then even if you don't properly secure your phone or someone grabs it whilst it's unlocked then they'd still need to authenticate within Authy. The only example you gave for 2FA failing to protect users is an example where the service itself was compromised, which has nothing to do with 2FA.

The only downside to 2FA is that it's a bit more hassle when you need to withdraw funds (or sell at a discount).
It does not add security risk, it reduces it. If someone did hack Authy then they can't access our AC accounts, they would also have to also hack AC for that (which they would have to do if AC didn't use 2FA). Even then you can't withdraw a large amount from your AC account without first fielding a call to make sure it's you (so they would also have to access your phone).
Seems to me the risk the OP is worried about is just being hacked full stop. There is a way to mitigate this, stop using the internet/telephone's. Revert to a branch only bank account.
The one thing I would criticise AC for is not having linked bank accounts for each user. That should have been a bigger priority than 2FA. It is a risk making people type their account details in every time they withdraw, just human error nevermind security. With linked bank accounts, even if someone hacks my account I'm not overly fussed - they can happily withdraw any funds I have into my own bank account.

Have a meeting at 14:30 today to discuss the release plan. 2FA was a pre-requisite, and as that's mandatory for all now we can press ahead with the designated bank account release.

Funny, I had a chap used to sit next to me at work who was so paranoid about being scammed that he wouldn't even order stuff over the phone if he had to read out his bank card details, never mind order on the net. His initials weren't btc though. A security friend of mine once said that a determined thief/scammer etc could always get at your cash/property/car eventually. What you have to do is put so many barriers in their way that it takes too long or difficult to do & they get detected before it happens. What AC have done with 2FA is just put in one more barrier, which is no real hardship. Not perfect, but then nothing is.
