Have just joined the forum, don't see much chat around equity crowdfunding and much of the convo is dominated by debt investments. I've dabbled in debt in the past but not yet equity investments. I know that CrowdCube has been doing cool things with what they're calling mini-bonds (eg: Chilangos), and Seedrs have been working with Chapel Down Winery, but I haven't gotten involved in any yet. I'm looking into it because I was at an investor night for a new crowdfunder called Crowd2Fund ( link here) that's planning to offer various forms of debt as well as equity. Interesting as I don't know of anyone doing this yet. They only have equity investments listed so far so will be checking back until I see some debt on there. In the meantime, anyone had any successes with equity investments?

I've invested in a number of companies via CrowdCube but it's still early days yet for my investments. You don't typcially expect any return from them for at least 3 years, and often 5 or 7. As mine were all made about a year ago I have a while to go yet. None of them have gone bust yet, which is something

Wow, Crowd2fund. You see what they've done there, taking the word crowd from crowdfunding, and the word fund from the crowdfunding and put a 2 inbetween. What a brainstorming session that must have been.

Than again, thinking back I would say that the presence of the z in the word 'Assetz' probably put me off signing up there for a good six months.

I wonder if they've been smart enough to register crowd1fund thru crowd99fund as trademarks? Allegedly IBM did that with PL/1.
EDIT: Forgot about crowdfunding4U.

I've tended to avoid crowdfunding/venture capital type P2P platforms. I work in IT and I've worked with a lot of start ups over the years. The number of sites I've worked on that are still in business is pretty small. So there's a lot of risk there. I'd prefer to lend to established businesses.
I did see the adverts for the Chapel Down Winery P2P funding round, they seemed to have a big ad budget for that. I think it was even featured at the bottom of the front page of City AM.

Yep, I've gone through a string of start-ups over the past few years - particularly around 1999-2006. Only one is still in existence, and that was very conservative and was arguably no longer a start-up when I joined.
I'm told that if you make 10 investments in these sorts of things, you can "expect" 7 to go belly up (total loss), a couple to be mediocre and one to return 1000%...although I think even that is quite fanciful.
I guess it's not controversial to suggest that equity-based crowdfunding is much more risky than p2p or p2b lending?
Given the above, you won't be surprised to hear I've not made any equity-based crowdfunding investments.
I was, however, almost tempted by an equity-based investment (via a managed investment service) in the renewables sector (wind turbines, solar farms, etc) - those returns sounded much more predictable (but consequently, not that exciting - 8% say). So predictable, in fact, I was surprised they still qualified for EIS and/or SEIS.

I have used Seedrs, Crowdcube, a nordic one and several German ones. The outcome of the German ones was unsatisfactory to me. At the moment I concentrate on Seedrs. Have invested in over 30 pitches there, heavily overweighting finance sector. You can read my Seedrs related articles here www.p2p-banking.com/tag/seedrs/
