I may have something to do with that. Last year I had a complaint against RS upheld that they had failed to communicate their 'automatic reinvestment' changes to the Rolling Market (where only interest could be directed to Holding) since they relied on the notification in the Monthly Statement emails to stand in for a separate email. I did not receive such emails at the time. On inspection the 'recieve monthly statement' option was unticked - and all the others were ticked. Whether or not it was unticked as it was an option brought in only much later than the rest (which I would have set to 'on' originally), RS didn't get the significance of relying on such an 'opt-in' system as the main channel of communication used. [slap on wrist]
So it could be they have now (rather lazily IMO, but rather 'in-character') turned that 'on' for everyone and disabled further changes just so they can send further 'important changes' to ALL customers and can demonstrate that to the FOS etc (and not told you b4hand)
As you are an investor with us, part of our service is to ensure that you receive monthly statements for your own reference, due to this we do not allow our investors to opt out of receiving statements.
Ludicrous but I expect nothing less from RS. I now remember why I stopped investing there.

Thinking outside the box, can you change your email address registered with them to one you don't read on a regular basis (Account Settings→Contact Details→Change Email)?

This is not the point, email is not secure, I do not want my financial information sent by an insecure method, even worse to an email account I don't monitor.

I'll just set up a rule to auto delete it. I thought I'd post here in case anyone else had the same issue and as yet another example of RS's hostility to their lenders.

This does not address the security complaint either. It's easy to ignore or delete or auto-junk emails, but the point is that email is insecure and can be intercepted and read from the moment it leaves RS and travels onto the internet. Email is a stream of unencrypted text flowing through an unpredictable and uncontrollable chain of computers, and anyone with access to those computers or the wires joining them can potentially read your email. It really is not a good place for confidential information.
locutus well if you escalate it to a formal complaint. I can't see how their stance could be considered reasonable, as it has no rationale. Just say that your expected 'resolution' is the deletion of your registered email and take it to the FOS if they say 'sorry'. But I would anticipate that b4 it that got very far they would 'find a way' to maually delete you from their mailing w/o any admission of liability.

Is this just extremely bad practise by RS sending sensitive financial information by email, or is it actually illegal for data protection/privacy reasons?
Although I can opt out, Amex emails me a statement showing my balance each month in the body of the email. Most of my banks send an email advising me of a new statement with a clickable link.
Trapped in the slimeball that is AssetzCapital. May they suffer for eternity…

Sending a link to prompt you to check your latest statement is fine, but I would be very unhappy if my bank decided to start sending my statements by email. I would have thought that RS are in a similar position to a bank as custodians of financial information and should be required to keep this private and not expose it to the vagaries of email. Making the default to send the information would be bad enough, but not being able to opt out at all is bizarre.
It seems difficult to get this resolved with RS, and I wonder how many lenders do not understand the importance of this. For example If someone rings you up purporting to be from RS, but have hacked the email account, they can give your current balances etc, and seem very legitimate and then inquire for some purpose your debit/credit card details and you could be easily mislead and scammed. A risk that shouldn't be there.
