Patches: Yes, where I feel hugely necessary. e.g. recent Heartbleed OpenSSL and ShellShock bash vulnerability, upgrade Firefox. etc. Reboot: No. Reboots are for hardware changes and full system clone image backups. My spidey-senses tell me you run Windows, and are conditioned to believe that constant reinstalling and rebooting is normal. I remember those days 100% powered by penguins, me. In theory you can patch the Linux kernel while it's running. Not brave enough to try that ... a bit too much like DIY brain surgery.

Glad to hear that uptime is still a source of pride amongst sysadmins. I had a Sun 3/60 that I got to over 1024 days, now my laptop nags me to reboot it if it's been up for a week. Progress.

Yep, me windows, many varieties, and android. All have to reboot to live, but at least they let me bid .. Grin.
XP, being no longer patched by Billy & co, doesn't get rebooted as often as the others. In theory not all windoze patches need a reboot, in actuality at least one of the 15-20 which arrive each month is bound to. 8<.
