I’ve done battle with other firms over “reasonable flexibility” in provision of requested certified copies, and lost. I believe the origin of the certification guidelines tracks back to the FCA somewhere and there is nothing in it for firms to risk departing from them. My advice is to follow the guidelines precisely or expect to get a repeat request to do it again. That said, usually the Post Office’s document verification service is also accepted (£12.50 for 3 certified documents, IIRC, but woe betide you if you then try sending photocopies of the certified photocopies!!) You may well be right, I do however suspect in this case it could run into several hundred asking which may have more influence. Don't ask don't get. (but ask is sometimes declined) Somebody with the 'ear of the CC' might care to ask them to try. Sadly, I do not believe anyone from the CC will have any success with this request to R**. At the moment, it might just be a sound idea to send the documents in by Recorded Mail, to ensure there is proof of Delivery, and to make sure that R** have to actually get up and at least sign for something, in their thousands!

This whole thing is a complete farce. It’s just like rubbing salt in the wounds. How many vultures and parasites are feeding off us lenders in this mess. As I’ve noted before there’s not a single party in this affair who has lenders’ interests in mind. Quite the opposite they’re all like wolves.

Hmmm. I'm nobbled by the verify email too. Given I have £50 in actual cash in my lendy account, and £1500 in unlikely to be paid back loans, what happens if I don't verify now?
Can I verify in X years time when the administrators have finally extracted every penny they can, and get back my £50 + 2p recovery from the loans?

So what happens if all bank statements are accessed online only which you print off yourself, will these be excepted, not that it bothers me yet as I have nothing to come back any time soon.

Mine will be going Recorded Delivery, as frankly I do not trust R** not to lose it in the volumes of other correspondence that they will be receiving. After all, they elected to stipulate the docs to be sent via mail and not e-mail. They are making enough in the retained interest on clients monies to cover the staff cost involved.

Will it be ok to print off copies and get them certified?

I'm surprised by the number of people going through this prove-your-identity farce for the first time. There is no common sense in regulations such as these. The problem is that they are so vague that it is up to each company to decide the lengths they put their customers/clients up to. The ONLY aim of each company is to minimise the chances that, at some point in the future, they are found not to have performed sufficient verification. Every lawyer they consult will advise to do more than necessary (oh, and here's my bill). Meanwhile, think of all that valuable private data flying around, and stored in databases just waiting to be hacked. Don't worry, GDPR regulations will make it all safe.
I am always left to wonder why a brick layer is not as responsible as, say, a minister of religion. I would say that it is quite a responsibility to build a wall properly, not have it fall down and kill someone. Why even specify 'responsible' professions? It's just insulting. How many companies actually check the details of the certifying person? Who is to say that the certifying person is who they say they are? Surely that should be certified, too. And that. And that. And...

Had to request that a paper bank statement be posted to me and then (even more surreally) have a photocopy of that certified by the Post Office since their FCA-dictated process does not accept original documents. Also had to get another certified passport copy made, since their process insisted that both document copies must have been certified on the same date by the same person .... !

ok, so i need to prove who I am too. Despite still having the same address, the same single bank account,....
I only have £X00 left invested(!?) in Lendy, in the London loan. I will be replying to the administrators and telling them that I will comply with their requests when, and only when, they confirm to me that they actually have funds ready to pay to me. Otherwise it's a complete waste of my time and money. I suggest others in a similar situation do the same.

Had to request that a paper bank statement be posted to me and then (even more surreally) have a photocopy of that certified by the Post Office since their FCA-dictated process does not accept original documents. The "even more surreally" part actually makes perfect sense...
The post office is certifying that the photocopy is a true copy of the original document that the bank sent to you (quite how they know the difference between an original sent by the bank and one you printed yourself on similar paper is a whole other question!)
As I understand it, the whole point of a certified copy is that it is presumed that you cannot (permanently) part with the original document, and the receiver does not want to have the expense of returning original documents to you nor to risk their loss.
For an original document that is worthless to you, I don't see a need to make a certified copy at all - just send the original with a covering letter saying that you do not need it to be returned, and they can make as many copies as they want themselves, and ask whoever they want to certify that it's a true copy of the original they hold.
If anyone lives close enough to the place they're asking you to send documents (or will be passing near there anyway), it may be cheaper for you to just pop round with the relevant original documents and tell them to make their own certified copies... it's certainly what I'd normally do with solicitors, banks, accountants, etc. when they want certified copies of various documents.
