I believe the technical term for this is "the exception that proves the rule". Quite. Or, possibly, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Of my defaulted loans (the only kind I have now) exactly one repaid in full. Of the rest, approximately 2.5% has been recovered. Looking at the loan comments, if I'm very lucky, I might get another 2.5% over the next 10 years. But OP is right - celebrate the good news when it comes!

wow
the remaining principal repaid today plus another 4.9% of the original amount as interest recovery
off to do a little happy dance.
and it means I'm over 3% total reecoveries
