I'm Sure I can remember the having Political Broadcasts in the 1990's, and Giggling at the yogic Flyers who were obviously thrusting downwards with legs to lift them 2-3 inches for a fraction of a second.

No, but I have previously considered voting for the Australian Sex Party (now renamed "The Reason Party").

Was George Harrison something to do with them? Or Sting?

Was George Harrison something to do with them? Or Sting? George did a fundraising concert for them, I think they wanted Paul and Ringo to stand as candidates

ISTR that there have been a few political parties in the past that have challenged the Monster Raving Loony Party, What was the Party that David Icke tried to start? he was a few sarnies short of a picnic (other choclate confection bars are available) for sure, and Didn't Kilroy Silk split off from ?Labour? to start some alternative party at one point? Made Screaming Lord Sutch look like Harold Wilson :-) Brian

RKS left parliament to present on TV ( Kilroy ) then Joined UKIP and was elected as an MEP then started VERITAS which he soon left and sat out his term as independent. That's another niggle for me but a different discussion:- If I'm elected as a Labour MP should there have to be a by-election If I decide I want to become a green MP. And in European Parliament if I change my colours should I not stand down and the next person on that parties list take over. As to Davide Icke his "Archons" compare to the Archons who rule the world in James Axlers outlanders series, but his lizards are the Annuki.

It depends on whether you consider that the electorate voted for the Person or the party, in the case of the Euro elections, then it is quite clearly the party they voted for, so yes, they should stand aside, in General elections it is a little more blurred, some constituencies do vote in independants - though rarely - so they do vote for the person, most "Party" constituencies, i.e. where you could get the proverbial Horse to stand, and, as long as he was wearing the right colour rosette, he would be voted in, then these are definitely party votes, or are they Voting for the prime minister they want?
It has always seemed strange that one vote has to stand for so much in a general election, but there again I'm not a geat fan of the Party system, it's just seems to be the least worst of the alternatives. Brian

@brianc I Agree with you, it used to be said "up North" pin a red rosette on a pig and labour voters would go for it and ditto tories with Blue What I didn't know where I lived for years that Blue pubs were Tory and Red Labour I'm also very much against people standing under political banners at Local Elections ( town/parish ) one of the oddest events I ever witnessed was after a local election in which Labour lost heavily ( at district level ) my town council then co-opted 5-6 labour candidates who'd lost, no thought of equality between parties.

Yep, that was the quote I was thinking of, but thought if I used the porcine metaphor it could possibly be a bit "loaded" so changed it to an Equine one Brian

What I didn't know where I lived for years that Blue pubs were Tory and Red Labour Really? Now that is interesting. Are we talking red/blue walls or just doors and window frames? Was this just a Northern thing or common around the country? Only use of paint colour that comes to mind is in-house landed estates colours where the otherwise delightful Midhurst in Sussex suffers from the proliferation of mustard coloured window frames of estate owned properties. Edit - The choice of tied house paint colours may also be influenced by the controlling brewery. It seemed at one time that every pub in Weymouth was painted green. Less an expression of enthusiasm for all things environmental and more proximity to the Devenish brewery in the town.

For Westminster, we vote for the individual - so, no, changing party shouldn't force them to stand down. For the Euro parliament, we vote for the party - so, yes.

Both up North where the sun don't shine.
