I watched the news last night of the terrible struggle of ALFIEs and the hundreds of families whose children suffer epilepsy bouts many times a day. I just wondered why the government are making things so difficult for these amazing people who want nothing more than the best quality of life possible for their children.they struggle physically and financially on a daily basis.these people are not drug users or addicts who the government are more than happy to throw millions of pounds at for rehabilitation with methadone/morphine substitutes and rehab centres and enhanced benefits.surely common sense should prevail here and these parents should be helped and praised for their efforts.they are not a burden on society they are honest decent hardworking people who need help and all they are asking for is that they can obtain medicinal cannabis which I believe the government has legalised on prescription for their children.

MY understanding is that Doctors wary to prescribe without thorough testing so many won't, also the long term worries about long term psychotic effects.
I also have a vague memory of one of the parents who was kicking off early being "exposed" as one of the major players in importing and distributing in the UK.
Personally I'd allow it but with parents having to indemnify the government against future claims.

It should be legalised (and heavily taxed like alcohol/cigarettes) for adult recreational use as well, this might help doctors in prescribing it.
The only people benefiting from the current prohibition are the criminal gangs producing and selling it.

NICE guidelines on the use of CBD are here
This review includes the statements "The review highlights that the lack of evidence about the long term safety and effectiveness of medicinal cannabis has weighed heavily on prescribing decisions and recommends two clinical trials be set up. ... The committee were unable to make a recommendation about the use of cannabis-based medicines for severe treatment-resistant epilepsy because there was a lack of clear evidence that these treatments provide any benefits."

yet the uk are the worlds largest producer of legal cannabisand export nearly 70% of the worlds total.the government refuse to allow it here claiming it has no theraputic value.at the same time it is licensing the worlds biggest government approved medical cannabis production and export market.it seems they are doing a bit of dealing themselves and not really concerned about long term effects as millions flow into the coffers.do as we say and not as we do, i guess.well government cannabis farms of industrial scale dotted around the country side you could not make it up.

I suspect NICE are correct and there isn't adequate evidence at present. What I don't understand is why all these families aren't enrolled in research programmes to gather that evidence. Is the research being done? If not why not?
