The companies which operate peer to peer platforms must also conform to ever-tightening FCA regulation around capital adequacy. There are minimum capital requirements for platform operators and this capital requirement grows in direct proportion to the size of that platform’s loan book. In other words, a platform cannot grow exponentially without committing secured funds to the FCA as they grow. This has been implemented in order to give individual IFISA lenders a greater degree of confidence that the platform they are lending through is sufficiently capitalised to continue trading beyond the course of the loans it is writing.
