Energy Efficiency or self generation Solar, Battery etc invest in a windfarm. My Roof is non optimal but I got over 3500kWh from my panels last year Based on current prices the panels are saving me about £500 a year on usage plus another £300 or so from export payments and by charging the battery overnight in the winter I save about £200 on electricity by storing it at cheap rate and using at expensive. so £1000 a year return on a £7500 investment. Battery is warranted for 6000 cycles ( 15 years ) Panels for 25 years. I have a smallish legacy due, and a chunk will be spent on additional battery I also have panels and battery but no export tariff on Octopus GO, so my objectives, largely successful, are to avoid using peak electricity and to direct excess solar generation to battery or water heating, but for me December 2021 was the worst month for solar generation in 11 years.
I think that I can see how you save £500 on usage (3500*14p) and £200 on using off-peak to charge the battery (180 days*12kW*14p-5p) but I'm puzzled as to how you are also exporting enough to net £300?
current average tariffs are about 24p a unit and go has 4 hours at 5p ( I can't see new tariffs at the moment but E7 is now something like 23p day 18P night ) I was on agile most of last year then switched to Go. I'm looking back and saying if this year was last year ( I moved to go in October when Agile became totally uneconomic ie most of the day at 35P ) So 2000kWh @ 24p £500, I Fiddled my Agile exports to export at best times of day, ( at times selling at over £1 kWh) and probably like you aim to have battery pretty much drained by sun up in a summer. in the old days of -ve energy costs I charged the battery for a profit. my Off peak on Go is currently saving me 24.67 - 5.25 = 19.42p kWh, I also run Dishwasher / Washing machine overnight. I hope that there will be a replacement for go for those of us with battery storage as GO is becoming a tariff for EV owners only. I aim to be back on Agile ( if it still exists ) in 25 months I have imported 1850kWh, my Panels have produced 6350, total 8200 = 4100 PA If I was purely GO it would work out thus Used 4000 kWh, exported 3700kWh so usage 2000kWh PA, export 1850 PA. 900kWh @ 5p is £45 Compared to 2000kWh @ 25p £500 ( £480 allowing for VAT ) 1850 export @ 3p £55 My last Full year on Agile I paid £80 for 903kWh I was paid £303 for 2250 kWh so my cost was -£220 compared to paying 20p per kwh £400 total ROI £620 but given the massive price increase in October and the estimate for April 2022 ...

Interesting (not) story. Took all mine out and bounced the money in and out of my account so many times by misfilling the Nsandi reinvestment form that my bank finally diverted me to its the fraud dept. 'Little old lady with no marbles at the mercy of god knows what '. Should have told them about P2P ventures as well while I was glazing over the mishaps. So no , no wins this January. doh. BUT WAIT UNTIL I HAVE A WHOLE LOAD OF NEW NUMBERS IN PLAY

It's in circumstances like this that you're tempted to take unnecessary risks for a paltry few extra % just to cover inflation. It's still Commodities and Funds for me. Even if there's an almighty crash you should, after time, still get your capital back. Unlike #~*ing P2P................

I currently have £12,000 invested and have won £25 this month after having won £25 last month. Not thrilled with the rate of return, but it could be worse. A friend of mine has £35,000 in an ISA and won't make £50 in a year.
Also, being very close to early retirement now, having some easily-accessible, secure cash beats the uncertainty of p2p.

2.5% return, no risk and instant access to your funds, and your unhappy?

3 x £25 for me this month (Feb).
Means I've averaged 1.6% for this year so far. 1.64% average for the previous 16 years (updated in December).
Happy bunny, although I am the tortoise, not the hare when it comes to growing wealth. :-)

Pleased to see your 1.6% return, which is obviously higher than Premium Bonds' average. The one thing I'd say is unfortunately you're not growing your wealth but losing it in real terms when it comes to Premium Bonds, as 1.6% is considerably lower than inflation. As a reminder for us all, CPIH is currently 4.8% and rising.

And regardless, people who are FIRE'd (financially independent and retired early) need to keep a few years worth in effectively cash... just in case the worst happens and you lose all your investments. I'd hate to have to start working again. I'm haivng too much fun.
