Maybe sons' bond win was because Nsandi had not been informed of the owners death beyondthe 12 month limit. Its possible there are loads of them and family is just not aware of their existance. So yours should be OK, if that's the current thinking . ( Sorry to worry you unnecessarily) Its OK, I had reached that same conclusion based on what the others had posted. Thanks for the clarification though.

They are not liable to collect any win tho' (If the owner has died) . Youngest had the extraordinary experience of a premium bond win (£25.00) reallocated to him because the winner had 'passed on' and was not eligible to collect and his was the next number . As others have said, once notified of date-of-death, bonds may be cashed immediately or stay in for up to 12 months max after d.o.d. with prizes passed to the estate.
The situation above sounds like someone that had died, but NS&I were not notified.
Had the prize been in month 1-12 after, it may well have been honoured and sent to the estate.
However, month 13+ prizes would still be being generated and allocated by ERNIE.
Once they realise that the prize is going to someone who was deceased AND it was beyond the time-limit (e.g. the bank account the payment was sent to bounced it as "closed", or the warrant was returned with "Not at this address, deceased" etc. then they would pull a new number out of ERNIE and that's the reallocated prize you saw.

After a disappointing October and November (£50 the pair), finished the year with a £250 flourish.

Mrs Aju got £250 (total for the year was £3600 so she's a happy bunny and no tax to pay)
I received £50 after adding £10k last month.

But just to show how random wins are, I have a £10k block that won nothing for 9 months, but has won £850 in the last 6 months

SFA for December. Still, that's 3.3% for the year (=5.5% taxable). Better than a slap etc.

A distinctly average £150 for me on £30k. A disappointing £925 payout for the year, I'm definitely in the 'below average' group. Story of my life really... Edit: Actually, I've just calculated that to be around 3.1% so maybe not so bad.

Edit: Actually, I've just calculated that to be around 3.1% so maybe not so bad. tax free (if that matters) Strangely, the taxman stopped taking any tax on my investment earnings after the new higher personal savings allowances were introduced a few years back. This despite the fact they were aware my investment income was still above the new threshold. I'm not gonna argue - let's hope I'm not tempting fate by posting this...
