In summary: Travelodge don't own buildings, just the brand, booking systems and intangibles. They franchise to 450-600 individual landlords who manage the hotel itself to Travelodge company standards.
Not quite sure who takes the money and who pays who (the paper is talking about rent from Travelodge to the landlords, bit also about management fees going the other way) but I guess ultimately Travelodge wants more of the pie and the landlords aren't budging.
Interesting times - but I think it will be harder than the landlords think to bring in a new company from the cold to run them all on T+1!

I've bailed out of this one now, I see another Debenhams coming up. Replaced it with a spread of some safer names (eg. DP World) and some more juicy tidbits as well (eg. Very, NewDay)
