Right - NO LOSSES TO BE PUT THROUGH THE BOOKS UNTIL 7 APRIL 2015, then we'll see if we are still dreaming.

Excellent news indeed. The way I read it, this will mean losses in one platform could be offset against taxable gains from across all p2p sites. Is that how others see it? It will mean the definition of whether a platform is indeed p2p or not, will be of increased importance. (Fortunately we don't need to chase FF till after April )

As always the devil will be in the detail.
As an investor in Bondora (where losses are much higher than on UK platforms) this will make a fair difference ........ assuming that 'foreign' platforms are included ............. devil and detail again.
I have a large supply of eggs and I just hope they don't go off before I can count the chickens.

Right - NO LOSSES TO BE PUT THROUGH THE BOOKS UNTIL 7 APRIL 2015, then we'll see if we are still dreaming. At the rate that TC formally crystallise obvious losses, that is no big ask.... Of course on the general point. This is a policy statement by a conservative chancellor in a coalition government regarding a proposal for a change to come into effect from April 2016. There is an election in May 2015. An alternative government might well decide it had different priorities to focus on. All statements made now which are not effective - or more accurately reflected in law and regulation - before the election reflect no more than a potential intent from a potential element of a potential future administration.

Will this be bound to bring more institutional investors into p2p?

Will this be bound to bring more institutional investors into p2p? Thought they were already in it with some platforms with toes in the water but under the radar. Their toes are certainly bigger than mine though.

Thought they were already in it with some platforms with toes in the water but under the radar. Their toes are certainly bigger than mine though. The whole thing is going to turn into another banking system soon enough! I think it's going that way with the odd platform here and there. I've wound down or am in the process of winding down a couple of my involvements in platforms. They've become too detached from the individual lender/investor and yes, they have got institutional money involved but prefer to not directly admit it. It's only when it hits the media that they 'confess' but always proclaim it will not affect the individual investor. What you find though is that the odd juicy 'deal' which used to be available is now off the menu. Now I wonder where they've gone!!!

Will this be bound to bring more institutional investors into p2p? <snip> intention to review financial regulation which currently stands in the way of institutional lending through P2P platforms.
If/when that comes into play full time then I guess the private lender/investor will get the bits the big boys aren't interested in. So more pressure on interest rate returns. It will be interesting to see which platforms are going to be transparent over this and those that prefer to stay opaque.
