So I'm due to fly back for a little while on Sunday. I have to fill out this form: www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-ukThen I get taken to a converted north sea oil rig where I need to sit in solitary confinement for 14 days eating only kippers. Actually no I don't but I do have to remain under house arrest. If I leave the house I'll be shot. Ok no I won't but if Tesco can't deliver, I'll have no food and must follow government advice. (What is that in this situation?) Or, I can take the view that where I'm coming from has a similar infection rate to the UK, break the law and go and get myself some provisions from the corner shop. Actually where I'm coming from is probably worse than the UK so unless really desperate I do plan to stay in doors. But finally to my point, I think France is within an order of magnitude of the UK infection-rate-wise. I'm not covering the latest stupid decision by our government here but regarding those coming from France, what is the panic ?? Who the heck knows what you are doing once you get back? Isn't this really a phoney quarantine? Are those more likely to be infected (the young) more likely to not bother about being grounded for 14 days? If you really needed your job and you'd lose it if you followed the quarantine rules are you really not going to turn up for work ?

I strongly suspect the reason the young are more likely to be infected is that they're more likely to be ignoring the restrictions.
I think that if everyone reacts exactly the same to the restrictions, the young are actually less likely to be infected.

Yes that's what I meant but phrased it badly and agree your second point seems likely too.

Thanks a lot for that! Is your understanding also that one may enter the UK and then leave a handful of days later even though you've been quarantine ? (9)(a) I had assumed I'd need to stay put for 14 days. Seems you need to be a lawyer to understand the practical consequences of this law.

For me Sainsburys has more short notice delivery slots, but click and collects seem pretty easily available now in all my local supermarkets and have been pretty contact free (just hand gel after loading car, etc), better social distancing than the corner shops.

Ok no I won't but if Tesco can't deliver, I'll have no food We are now August, not March when all this first started. (a) Tesco are not the only kid on the block, if you're wedded to Tesco then that's not the government's problem (b) All the companies have sorted out their logistics problems (c) The surge of complete twats panic buying which caused the problems in the first place is long gone (d) If it all fails, you can always get meals on wheels from your local take-away / restaurant. my understanding is you are in quarantine, not isolation, under isolation you can leave the house for essentials, to walk the dog etc. under quarantine you MUST NOT leave the house for any reason ( well I assume it's ok if house is on fire ). Giggling because locally we have the first local lockdown in Wales and the county border cuts one village in half so in effect number 50 can go visit 52 etc but 48 can't visit 46. but 46 and 52 can sit together in the village pub.

I would not want to be in the half of the village that can't visit the pub, but can look longingly at it out of the window.......
