We used to have a poster (possibly yourself?) whose sage advice was 'always avoid retail'.
I have learned to appreciate that wisdom the hard way, via Debenhams new look hof and more... Matalan will not tempt me!

HY Strategy Portfolio: 14.2% returns in 5 Months www.creditmarketdaily.com/%f0%9f%92%b7-hy-strategy-portfolio-14-returns-in-5-months/ NewDay, Saga, Iceland, TalkTalk and Shop Direct - I hold all of these, Iceland think was a decent example of a high street retailer. I'm not sure what the price/yield/ytm is today. He describes them as being "testier"! By store retailers I meant the likes of Matalan, New Look etc. In essence "Clothes" shops. I too hold Iceland and NewDay as well as Saga RAC and AA among others. I'm showing a 12.5% gain in the 3 months since I started in WA and spread over 29 companies. I do not go for any bonds longer than a 5 year period and will not buy into any bond above par. This obviously limits my choice and I try to go for a fairly even spread over all my investments to limit my exposure. I looked at the Euro Bond Market and although there were some tasty offerings, the exchange rate concern has put me off. I wish I had found WA instead of Ly, Col and MT as I would have been a much richer (and wiser?) person.

"(and wiser?) person" I think that's a really interesting question. I've been a long timre equity investor and small time peer-2-peer investor, so one of the attraction for me doing this, and if I'm honest more than making a return, was learning more about the debt as an asset or instrument and in general improving my overall investing skills. I remain roughly even on WA, but with a very high YTM, which to some extent was what I was aiming for. I always intended to take some outside bets, but with the intention that the remainer of my portfolio balancing out the downside, but importantly I invested in the broadest range of companies, within reason. So for the value of cash I've invested, less than 1% of my portfolio, the time I'm invested is well out of proportion. I've been happy to do that because although I have reservation about WA (it's still start-up) I'm hoping over time they are successful and then I'll be willing to make the type of commitment I would to Bell, Hargreaves or Interactive Investors. I think I've said it before, my exposure to WA is similar to a small equity holding in the rest of my portfolio. So the questions I have is " do you think investing in WA has improved your overall understanding of corporate funding/balance sheets risk and has it improved you as a muti-asset investor?" I believe I've got a better understanding of company funding and I've found the process informative. I've certainly got a greater understanging of the holdings, structures and risk of the "income" IT's I hold. I'm very much still on the learning curve of looking at the risk of corporate funding / balance sheet data. There are some very good facts that can be seen on some of the bond info on WA and I always do a search on the companies I am interested in. Some of the bond info given by WA can lack the detail you need to assess the risk and this is where you need to do a bit of research into the company funding structure. It's always a good idea to look at the bond prospectus to find out what they intend to do with the cash raised but I'm sure this is old rope to you and you already do these things. I only wish that some of our more erudite investors would share their knowledge of the current and future bonds on WA.

An early decision would be here or WA's own forum? Certainly there's more expertise over there and I think they would thank us for moving camp.
It may even get them chatting again. As I keep getting a ban on here - not because of my posts, they are trying to ban someone else I share an IP address with! I promise LOL I'm open to chatting here, or there, as long as we can get more posters, readers are a plenty, posters less so. Well that's just asking for it!

I didn't even realise WA had their own chat rooms... Where can I find it?
