Thanks for this treetop, it is an interesting fund. I wonder how they encourage the artists to part with their catalogue and royalties. Many are young and unless they buy at a huge premium (seems likely considering the debt they are accumulating) it does not seem a wise move by the artist (some may be distress sales of course, although unlikely for most).

If Mr Bowie was still around we could ask him. He sold all his catalogue years before he died for a princely sum. Canny move in hindsight. PS - Oh Gawd, I should read the threads fully, @trehugged has already alluded to this.

Did mention some weeks back in another thread that my wife put a small sum in this over a year ago (inherited from a relation who liked a gamble so she wanted something a bit/much different rather then adding to her normal funds!) and has done ok so far From what i understand (second hand from her i admit and with no research) that for the artist there can be other benefits as well as getting the money now rather in years to come.In that in a way the fund acts like another manager as it does not just take a passive position and tries to work with the artist(some) and itself in exploring streaming/advertising/soundtracks and other markets etc and increasing royalties And if you look at the Blondie sale in the music press Debbie Harry & Chris Stein say they are looking forward to working with Hipgnosis in the future so it could be they only sell some of the rights i.e writing but not performing or broadcasting or vice versa maybe?
