I think that, if we could look 200 years into the future, we would see England, all of Europe populated by similarly hued olive skinned people; our children. They will all be proud of their mixed heritage which in its way tells the story of their country, of empire, of history. I rather like the prospect, but even if you don't, it's inevitable, just an idea to get used to. I've been wondering whether it is inevitable? It's a similar timescale to Europeans populating Australia. They still have very much a white population and an aboriginal population there. To many adherents of at least one religion in the UK, marriage to the indigenous white non-believers is anathema. Many do not wish to integrate, but prefer to remain within their own group. I suspect your vision of utopia may take longer than 200 years. Maybe 2000? Well, I picked an arbitrary date. But just like you can't disprove climate change by looking at the weather, you can't disprove assimilation by pointing to the people of the "at least one religion in the UK". They might look like an indigestible lump, but they are assimilating, and you just have to be patient. My friend Sally P has married Nav about 10 years ago. Great colourful secular-Pakistani wedding it was too, Art Malik was there. By the third and fourth generations, attitudes in such communities who have been British all their lives are indistinguishable from ours who count ourselves as aboriginal British.

It is worrying, the future will not be the same as the past........
or from a different perspective
Isn't it great, the future will not be the same as the past.......

With inflation rampant, and strikes it does feel a bit like we are back in the 70's.
And I can confidently predict as in the 1970's Nurses and other groups vital to the nation will fall behind in terms of wages etc.
Partly because groups like the RCN say they will never call for nurses to strike, Being honest the mere idea of them striking should be enough to bring the government and NHS to the table and get a decent rise, but because they won't they get lower rises.
The average nurse in the UK is paid somewhere £30-35,000, train driver £50,000, Tube driver £55,000 ( excluding bonus ), Social Worker £45,000.
personally I think the nurse should be the highest paid of that group

Not sure how keen I am on the UK being called out by the CCP. Hard to argue that it's not a well aimed dart though.

Abandon ship ... If Durham police could chuck some fines onto the fire we could have a complete clear out.

Or "nearly 100 scientists snub EU to remain in UK despite grant loss" as another newspaper put it when the story first emerged 2 weeks ago. 😁

Just to show how out of touch politicians are, a friend was in a meeting last week with their SNP MP.
Asked about independence, He said that the Scottish people would be back in the EU within 6 Weeks of a leave vote and that Scotland would be fully independent the day after the vote.
When challenged he insisted EU membership is just a matter of application and that the Border between Scotland and England would be for England to enforce not Scotland as part of the EU.

The other thing that puzzles me about the SNP line is that they seem to be arguing that, assuming there's a referendum and people vote for independence etc, they can both retain Sterling and join the EU. That seems... unlikely... to me.

And have the benefit of the Strength of the pound Sterling ( Ok not that strong at the moment ) rather than their own currency which could be stronger or weaker than UK pound
