I wonder if anyone here has bought a webcam recently (in the UK) that they are reasonably happy with?
I need another webcam, I have always been happy with Logitech ~£50, but there aren't any. I would pay up to £90 for the Logitech C920 but it has been sold out everywhere for six months. I bought a random, but highly rated one from amazon - it is utter rubbish. I do not have high standards, but this had terrible distortion outside the middle third and poor colour brightness. Most of the reviews must be fake (or I got a different product/seller than most of the reviews another problem I seem to have with Amazon these days).
For example does anyone have any experience of Currys PC World ADESSO Cybertrack webcams?

I bought a Logitech C270i HD a few months ago (having had on backorder with amazon for many weeks) and it more than meets the requirement for occasional (2 or 3 times weekly) videoconferencing. Still available on Amazon Prime for next-day delivery at £50: www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-C270i-HD-Webcam-Plug/dp/B08819Q7KM (Lower cost options are apparently available through the Amazon marketplace.)

Guess what bigfoot12 , my webcam on laptop has gone kaput. I tried the iVcam with my iphone. 720 @ 60ps, have audio enabled on the iVcam app on the phone, it works great. Give it a go. www.e2esoft.com/ivcam/Second thought, I am going to try this EpocCam, alternative to iVcam www.kinoni.com/Conclusion: Epoccam works fine for free, although free version offers basic resolution @ 640 x 480 and audio is captured from the PC Audio, it does the job. The upgrade app costs £7.99 as a one off payment. PS: KINONI's hq based in Finland www.crunchbase.com/organization/kinoni

Thank you all. Many colleagues who are entirely Apple based have been using their phones, but I hadn't spotted how easy it was with android too. I see that iVCam works with android, or alternatively the Logitech 270 will be great.
(Lockdown has been strange, normally I spend all my time working out how to disable the camera on my laptop!)

I bought one of these cheapies back in... ooh, early 2020, I think it was... Feels more recently than that many years back... If you think availability is shonky now, you ought to have seen it back then... www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08629ZDPQ/ - £25 back then, £15 now. Manually focussable (turn the lens ring), rather than simply fixed-focus like many. Does what it says on the tin. The one real negative about it is that it "washes-out" very easily in bright light.
