earlier was stood in the post office, and the woman in front of me says to lady behind the counter :-
"you know our Josie don't you" " She phoned the Council tax people the other week and explained that she's been running a hairdressing business from home for the last 5 years. And that because of this covid she needs a reduction in her council tax for the room she uses for it. Well instead of a cheque for a refund she's been sent a bill for the previous 4 years as arrears of business rates, what do you think she should do"
and the lady behind the counter says:- "i'd tell her to expect a visit from the DWP about her universal credit claim, and a letter from the tax man asking about her profits"
I nearly laughed out loud

of course I was 6ft away.
Now that is something we could sell the "P2P IF expression mask", with a neutral or happy expression ( only need 2 because happy upside down is sad )

of course I was 6ft away. But were you 2m away, or were you closer than the required distance? Remembering, of course, the official advice is 2m (3 steps) apart in Wales, where keitha (and I) reside. Some people I've observed evidently have VERY small steps though. gov.wales/coronavirus-social-distancing-guidance

jonno I regularly see sheep in the streets, I even took a picture of some using a crossing last year, and they regularly graze the grass outside TESCO And in answer to the question yes some people do seem to see 2 metres to be the same as 2 feet. Mind you, Cardiff Council have signs up in the parks saying keep 2 meters apart, i'm so tempted write to them to ask, is it Gas meters, Electric Meters, or voltmeters

The "footists" can stay a little closer to strangers than the "meterers", but what about the "steppers"? How long is a step? I haven't been much out in the wild since March last year, but I've seen a floor markings in supermarkets and banks, these are probably much more effective than steps&feet

I was shielding until 3 weeks after my vaccine and was still very nervous in the shops, so when someones stood right up close at the checkout I turned and asked if she would mind moving 2 metres away and she said "oh, thanks very much" and moved two metres in front.... True story. You just couldn't make it up.

Baa...actually Wales stole the metric march over England, which was still struggling along with the archaic "step" until very recently. Latterly the rule in England was helpfully clarified as "3 steps (2 metres)"... unless you were at a funeral in which case it was still defined by the original units of "steps" alone, as a special concession bringing comfort to the assembled mourners: "Everyone must stay at least 3 steps away from each other". The very concept of metres was still considered too impure and upsetting for funeral-goers.
