this is from the online Independent, and I have no idea whether its from a trusted source or not. However, not only is Parliament being recalled a day early so that "MPs can pay tributes.....to be led by the PM..." (I suspect the D of E would be rolling in his grave at that if he had yet made it to it) but also "The prime minister himself will forgo his planned trip to a pub for a pint to celebrate the return of outdoors hospitality on Monday, though the relaxation of lockdown restrictions will go ahead as planned."
At such critical times even not to be missed photo ops have to be cast aside.....how utterly inconsiderate of the old fella to pop off so close to BoJo's triumphant moment....

I believe Philip never wanted a big state funeral. I really liked Philip with all his terribly un PC comments over time, but also his worries about climate change etc, well before most other people saw it.

" The prime minister himself will forgo his planned trip to a pub for a pint to celebrate the return of outdoors hospitality on Monday, though the relaxation of lockdown restrictions will go ahead as planned." What he said was "On 12 April I shall be cautiously but irreversibly raising a pint of beer to my lips." I'm just guessing but I think he's had second thoughts and used this as a reason to abandon the idea of holding a glass of beer in front of his face for ever more.

I see the BBC is in full propaganda mode though, cleared their schedules on multiple channels until early-doors tomorrow.
Not that I watch mutch (if any) BBC. But in 2021 its a bit OTT, especially as BBC has hourly news anyway and a 24 hour news channel.
I think covid virtually 24/7 for the last year on BBC is OTT so this makes a welcome change.

Starting to get fed up with it as the story dominates all the mainstream media and the BBC in particular.
Couldn't watch any news last night as there was nothing on it. I also see lots of other programmes being cancelled.
Forcing this stuff on us is increasingly out of touch with large swathes of the population especially as we can't go down the pub to drown our "sorrows".
I'm not particularly anti-monarchy but the coverage is getting on my nerves already. Another nail in the coffin of the beep ?

The BBC is perpetually under attack for being 'lefties', and I think the new management has tried to compensate by wrapping the channels in the flag in order to avoid criticism. However they have madly over-compensated, running the same obituary programmes on parallel channels, Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra, cancelling all programmes on BBC4, clogging World Service and I'm sorry, it was all so repetitious and dull, not a fitting tribute to the no-nonsense man they were commemorating.

That suggests its a recent thing. You think it would have been any different 5 years ago? Or 10 or 20 ?

I don't really know, I was just ranting because I'm intravenously attached to BBC radio throughout the day, and then most likely to be watching 1,2 or 4 during the evening. So much as I respect HRH, I was a bit peeved. Would they have done it the same 5 years ago? I suspect not. I think the programmers are wary of the current government, and quite rightly. So they did what they thought they had to do to escape criticism from those who hold the purse strings. I am also wondering if things might have changed as the Gvt has installed a Tory donor, Richard Sharpe as chairman, and Tory donor and ex Conservative councillor and constituency party chairman Tim Davie as Director General. They have recently been nagged by MPs to show more union jacks. Just saying. BBC crisis: Broadcaster faces calls to be dismantled amid 'Britain-bashing' bias outrage

Pretty sure they did the same for QM, maybe Thatcher, and I definitely remember launching a similar rant when every channel was fixated on the People's Princess demise.

I referenced the "College of Arms" higher up this thread. Which got me to thinking what is the purpose of the "College of Arms" - is this where they go to learn how to work with their hands ?

Most importantly, when is the Masterchef final going to be shown?

Here is my favourite Prince Philip quote. Of course the biased right wing BBC didn't mention it in all their zillion hours of coverage.
I just wonder what it would be like to be reincarnated in an animal whose species had been so reduced in numbers than it was in danger of extinction. What would be its feelings toward the human species whose population explosion had denied it somewhere to exist... I must confess that I am tempted to ask for reincarnation as a particularly deadly virus.

I managed to miss the whole People's Princess nonsense by the expedient of being in France on a booze trip that went a little awry and lasted 2 weeks. Coming home on the funeral day I was appologised to by every French person I met and had the pleasure of driving from Kent to Leeds with barely another car on the road.
Those were the days.
