Nigel Farage was interviewed on LBC by Nick Ferrari. It was, of course, predictable. He'd love to hold constituency surgeries (y'know, do the actual job he campaigned for - eight times), but it's just not safe. But anyway... The interview finished with the end of Ferrari's show... followed by James o'Brien. The intro to that show... "Well, there’s a lot to get through today. For example, have you ever had violent race riots named after you or indeed been accused by the head of the Met of emboldening the racist thugs responsible? Has your vile and ignorant rhetoric ever helped instigate attempts to burn people alive in their beds? Have you ever cited a self-described misogynist facing rape and people trafficking charges in Romania as a trustworthy news source for events in the UK or described yourself as part of a similar phenomenon to him? Have you ever helped a convicted woman-beater* get elected to the UK parliament? And have any newly-elected MPs spent more time in America getting binned off by Donald Trump than they have in their own constituency? And what would you call someone who answers yes to all those questions?”* - James McMurdock, RefUK MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, who pleaded guilty years ago to common assault while "very drunk" against his then-girlfriend, and was imprisoned for a "short time". The party admit they were aware, despite him only joining the party the same month as the deadline to be nominated as a candidate. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn083wy3e7po

He'd love to hold constituency surgeries (y'know, do the actual job he campaigned for - eight times), but it's just not safe. He claimed the lack of surgeries was on the advice of the Speaker's office and Parliamentary security - who have now said they have "no recollection" of any such advice. Personally, I think it more likely that the truth lies in...

The immigration debate is in need of some middle ground.
We have Farage and Robinson on one end who certainly have plenty of racist followers even though they themselves are careful not to overstep that line.
Then we have the extreme liberals who consider people like me and millions of others racist for merely stating that mass immigration over the past few years without corresponding infrastructure has created enormous problems including housing and healthcare. There never has nor will there ever be a racist fibre in my body. I have been brought up to take everyone as they come and to completely ignore colour of skin. I suspect most people fall into that anti-racist category.
What is needed is a politician to recognise that there are problems caused by unchecked immigration and that is has nothing to do with from what part of the world the come from. I suspect the Tories, if they had any sense, will move into this vacuum.

Vacuum?
It seems to me that the Tories have occupied that space at since at least Theresa May's premiership (even if you exclude those who actually are racist) and that Labour have lately planted their flag there too.

We have Farage and Robinson on one end who certainly have plenty of racist followers even though they themselves are careful not to overstep that line. Oh, they definitely do, especially Yaxley-Lennon. That sounds more like a UK government problem, a complete failure to provide and fund services. But don't forget that UK population growth has been tailing off over recent years, until last year. Even last year's record population growth - 610k - was much lower than immigration - 1.2m. It was slightly lower than net migration - 685k. Then consider that the fastest growing age group in the UK is the retired... and there are very, very few people of retirement age coming into the country. So with zero immigration, what would the change in the proportion of economically active to population have been? And don't forget that the crackdown on visas for family members of students has directly precipitated a funding crisis in UK higher eduction, especially post-grad, with universities approaching bankruptcy. So you think there is and should be zero difference in migration terms between, say, somebody Irish and somebody Syrian or Sudanese? Both should be able to apply to move to the UK on equal terms? That'll be the Tory government that issued well over a million visas to immigrants in the last year of their government, while simultaneously and vocally demonising immigrants. But I think we're drifting somewhat off topic for this thread.

I think they tried to but not very successfully. Labour appears to all but ignore the issue which I think means curtains for Starmer at the next election.

Is that your test to decide if someone is racist or not ? What is your answer to that question? Mine would start with the fact that Ireland and the UK are neighbours and already share a common travel area. Perhaps you should re-phrase the question replacing Irish with American, Canadian or Australian. That would be easier to answer I think.

OK, so we've established that you do see differences between grades of foreigner. If not Irish, because they're not "proper foreign", just our next door neighbours, what about the French? If free movement within the CTA is fine, why was similarly free movement with the rest of the EU such a bad thing? Should there be zero difference in migration terms between, say, a German and a Syrian? Or, if you prefer, a Canadian and a Syrian?

Our gov dont see different grades of foreigners but the home office does provide different “types” of visa for the eligible person staying in the UK.
To earn the “Indefinite Leave to Remain”, there are different routes. Some takes 10 years and all are required passing English language test.
However, those whom already got INR or been Naturalised years / decades ago might not have been “eligible” with the current requirements.
This is equally true for other EU countries. Some EU passport holders might not even speak a word of the country they got the passport from decades ago.

The country of origin should be taken into account for immigration purposes obviously. What has that to do with racism? I've now asked you two questions which you haven't answered but instead continued your somewhat libellous thread. If you know me, my background, my upbringing and my beliefs you would know it is utterly preposterous to think I am a racist. Could you please apologise for suggesting I might be ?

I fail to see what could be "potentially libellous" about me merely asking some questions to explore your statement
I haven't accused you of anything.
You do not, as you initially stated, view each individual purely on their personal merits. You think the country of their nationality is important in determining the degree of paperwork to which they should be subjected. Why is that? Is there an easy way to classify countries? Wealth? Political.allegiance? Development status? Geography?

me I'd want to look at Russians closely as Russia is clearly not a friendly nation, ditto those from the Yemen etc that have launched drone or missile attacks on British or other friendly nations ships.
Yes i know the lefties here will attack me for this but hiding agents as refugees etc would be a tactic I'd adopt.
I would also impose a requirement to learn at least the basics of English within say 18 months to remain here, my wife as a nurse has treated patients who even after 10-15 years don't even have the basics of English.
