I was due to be switched from Igloo to Avro on Tuesday. I was away from Monday back today, attending to rather more important things. As the switch was on Tuesday, I really wasn't sure what the outcome was going to be. Yesterday I found something on OFGEM stating in black and white that those in process of being switched when a supplier goes bust would still be switched and then the mess sorted out.
I've no confirmation email from Avro that the switchis complete, nor from Igloo saying I'm no longer one of their customers. I can login into both, and thankfully took a screengrab of my balance on Avro (they take took 1m payment upfront) on Sunday (or was it Monday,...).
Having got back this afternoon, the lights are working, the freezers are still on, and I've been able to have a hot shower. I don't who that is courtesy of.

I switched the same suppliers as you, which completed Tuesday,so never did get use of Avro energy, dont know who the new supplier is either yet.I recon this will take ages to sort out with all the failed suppliers

They appear to have gone bust on Wednesday, you might well have been switched.

I'm sure nobody else has the slightest interest in my story, but as a tale of what might happen when you are mid switch and things go all t**s up it may be of mild interest to someone somewhere sometime.
I've as yet had no correspondence from either my 'old' (current?) supplier, Igloo, nor my new (never ? temporary ?) supplier, Avro indicating that I had actually 'left' them or actually 'joined' them. I contacted Igloo on I think Thursday or Friday via my old (current ?) account to ask what the status was. I've not contacted Avro as they are of course in administration: access to my (new ? temporary ? Old ?) account was very limited anyway due to I assume load. .
This morning I decided to check my new SmartMeter, and from there it would appear that I have Igloo as stated supplier (for Leccie anyway: for Gas it is 'unsupported'). The rates for both appear to not be Avro's rates, nor Igloo's old rates, but probably in line with Igloo's new rates that were being introduced.
But then meter's take sometime to catchup anyway.
If I was a betting man, I would say that perhaps I never got actually taken on by Avro because maybe OFGEM had already told them to not take on new customers, or similar.
The fact that I see that Avro had a 27 year old (??) founder and that millions were apparently switched out made me think I never had intended to put my utilities with something resembling a P2P outfit. Heh ho.

Quelle debacle! Perhaps time to cancel all direct debits and wait for some supplier to contact you or you will find them ALL syphoning off your payments. Oh for the days when there was a bill tucked behind the mantlepiece clock :-)

Moneysavingexpert cheap energy club - plenty of filters such as feedback and size so consumers don't just blindly switch to someone operating from his garage because it is the cheapest tariff. It also emails you when your deal is about to expire or if a much cheaper tariff suddenly appears out of the blue, like at the end of this winter when all the big boys have filled their pockets because they bought their gas a year ago !

Thanks. Wasn't aware of that. Useful to at least know, and in due course in the event of continued radio silence I will likely call them.

But I'm less worried about that, for the moment. I got notification from Igloo 9th Sept. that my DD with them had been cancelled. So its possible I may in fact being supplied by someone who I am not paying money to, in lieu of someone to whom I am paying money too. Or not. Who knows. I am for the moment going to sit tight and wait and see: In theory according to OFGEM it should all come out in the wash. Which colour it will come out is perhaps a different matter.

Currently the cheap energy club only has expensive to offer and all the cheapest of those are variable. I think the man himself was suggesting possibly going with the variable capped rates for a while in the hope that the worst rises will be temporary and look for a better fixed rate later. Still saving money on fuel for the car, can't get any!

Before P2P, savers put a guinea in a piggy bank, now they smash the banks to become guinea pigs.

Oh for the days when there was a bill tucked behind the mantlepiece clock :-) I don't think you should cancel your DD, especially if you are in credit with a cheap supplier who has gone bust. In 2019 I was with solarplicity who went bust. My account was taken over by EDF at exorbitant rates, so I immediately switched. The solarplicity administrators took a further DD although I was already in credit. The administrators then fabricated an inflated meter reading which they fraudulently classed as an A (actual) read. The inflated meter reading was passed on to EDF. In today's world that could work in your favour.

Whilst your case has the added twist of being mid switch, I suspect there will be many millions more making the same trip into the unknown. That is usually a good thing as many eyes (including the Governments) will be watching the outcome. That it will cost you more is clearly the most annoying bit I guess. I am currently with Pure Planet (think that makes me an eco warrior of sorts, but my motives may not have been driven by that), they claim to have pre purchased supplies till the spring so hopefully will survive till my deal ends. Regardless I spent a bit of time yesterday sending current readings, downloading statements and taking screenshots. Probably a worthwhile pass time for everybody at the moment.

Just to be clear cheap energy club is totally independent - like IFAs are meant to be but are often not - the comparison tool shows the whole market, it is not using a preferred supplier list. The only way to get a cheaper option would be at the door, over the phone, through the letter box, employee perks or persuasive skills beyond most normal people.

Indeed, I'm relaxed about the whole thing, but that doesn't make me uninterested and curious as to 'what happens next'. It is a pity I'm somewhat in limbo, and can't at the moment look to select a 'best' supplier to currently be with, and so will cost me. But heh, that is fairly small beer in the big scheme of things.
