I think perhaps more self centred and selfish. He had a decent business which for various reasons he ran into the ground, and has got this thing about how badly done to he is by the state, So it's not his fault he kept claiming on UC for his daughter when she was over 18, the state is wrong because it won't give him PIP cos he drinks and has mental health issues, he thinks he should get carers allowance etc for both his wife and daughter, the wife has a slight brain injury from an accident 20 odd years ago ( he was driving ), but over the years since she has held a job down most of the time. The daughter is developmentally delayed, his view is he should get carers and be able to claim UC until her mental age reaches 18. of course he wants all this extra from the state on top of his wages. Now he is no longer self employed he thinks the tax system is wrong as it won't let him take his wages tax free and pay the tax after the year end ( yeah like that would happen ) Mmm.......still not warming to him. Does he actually have any endearing qualities?

How's the allotment going? Mine is good, got some lovely Cauliflowers on the way, sprouts, kale, nero de tocsa ( THAT NICE STRAPPY LEAVED KALE) red Cabbage, Runner beans coming on, sweetcorn a little behind, beetroot doing well Onions were bad as were broad beans got 3 varieties of tomatoes cropping ( red, yellow and black ) Cucumbers fruiting and I'm having to give them away. Courgettes and marrows OK, Butternut squash a disaster potatoes not doing well, but I have Christmas ones ready to go in. was a good year for fruit, red and black currants, raspberries and gooseberries

The redcurrants were the best for years. The blackcurrants expired during the cold winter.
Buddleia brilliant. A couple of weeks ago, when the sun appeared (honest, Guv) there were a dozen different species of butterflies on the flowers at the same time. And 2 hummingbird hawk moths.
Holly - heaviest set of berries I have seen in a few years.
Plums doing well.
Apples looking good.
Walnuts also looking good. Hazel nuts looking good.

I was rather pleased to find out that they are not protected (greys) and as long as despatched quickly and humanely it's allowed. Reluctant as I am, the days of my local "colony" are numbered.........

They leave red squirrels alone, can't catch them, grey squirrels are easier prey. Unfortunately, pine martens are rare in England after years of persecution but are now protected. Bring back the pine marten!
