Was doing it few years back.. not really free money because it will impact credit score if doing that too frequent.. I wish I could do it more frequently, but there are only about 12 banks who offer free cash for switching/opening account and many of them don't allow to be used more than once. Some banks do allow more than once but must be 2 or multi year intervals..

RBS may do a “random” hard search when you switch to them, sounds like RBS is making a decision to decide giving a free loan

Santander just paid me 200 to switch back from HSBC. 400 quid for 10 minutes work. If you can't be bothered to take advantage of this madness then I am glad you are alot richer than I am.

Luckily I had an old current account with nationwide that is not a joint account, which has a couple of direct debits I dont want my wife to find out about (OnlyFans and AdultCamWorld). I am going to transfer it to TSB for another free £200.

Well, I will definitely join you switching account to TSB. My local TSB branch does provide 'good' service, not much queuing time at branch. Barclays giving headaches lately, they are doing "something" quick and the best thing I could do is raise a complaint.

Was thinking about this just the other day.
In a little over 2 years time I will start to receive my state pension.
As I remember it some only give you the bonus if you pay in £1,000 a month or more and have at least 2 DD out,
As i see it in 2 years time my works pension and state pension will both be over £1,000 a month so I could run 2 accounts like this and switch annually, a nice little boost to my pension.

I could have not imagined TSB will soon double the bonus. The first £50 has arrived on the day it was promised. Now just using their card 5 times a month and pay £500 in and out RBS didn't pay me £175 they've promised. I've checked t&c and followed the rules, so in theory I was fully qualified. Tried to do the same with Natwest, that went nowhere (even the switch didn't take place).

RBS couldn’t complete the switch for me in October, gave me a hard search and no bonus.

Most people dont bother to take advantage of these small opportunities that exist in the economy, if they did then they probably wouldnt exist. I am certainly going to set this up so I have 3 or 4 functioning current accounts and cycle them every 1 to 2 years. It is not really that much extra hassle for me since I have to keep multiple bank accounts because of the FSCS limit. Like alot of people who have a frugal mentality, I get alot of personal enjoyment from finding opportunities like this that save me money or make me money with little or no effort

When did you start the transfer from HSBC to Santander? Santander say they will check eligibility 60 days after the switch and pay the £200 within 30 days after that - so maybe a total of 90 days. Are you saying it all happeneed much, much quicker than that ??

They have not paid the money back into my account yet but they confirmed I will get the money before I filled in the forms for transfer back to them.

Required payments can be from any external source, and don't have to be one payment. You could pay in for example £500, withdraw or transfer it out, then pay it in again and your £1000 is covered

Unless you like making yourself work.
