Change Highway Code Rule 163 & 212 to include pedestrians and cyclists riding on the pavement. Referring to the incident where a woman riding her cycle on the pavement in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire in October 2020 was hit and killed by a car when she veered off the pavement and fell in front of the vehicle after being told to "get off the pavement" by an approaching pedestrian. Rules 163 & 212 of the Highway Code were recently revised or added to give greater safety to pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists in the road being passed by motor vehicles. These rules should also be extended to include pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists walking and riding on pavements. Sign the petition:- chng.it/y2cCtsyB

I'm not sure that the tsunami of minor criminal acts that are now part of the everyday life of this country are going to be reduced by adding another little law that will be ignored by people.
The key issue is that the public transport system has collapsed under covid, car usage is at an all time high and the Tuscan dream has become a queue nightmare. As a result of this more and more drivers resort to minor criminal acts and make the roads more and more unsafe for cyclists, cyclists then make a life saving decision to ride on shared cycle lanes and pavements, pedestrians get upset. The result is we are all minor criminals.
Bright yellow clothing does not solve this.
Get the buses and trains working!
Then provide infrastructure fit for the 21 centuary which means more cycling provision and more 15 minute towns

It's not entirely clear what amendment the petitioner wants, but if the suggestion is to give 1.5m clearance to anybody on the pavement, then that's clearly not even remotely feasible in most situations. Still, since the petition has a grand total of one signature as of now... and that from the author... ( gramsky - is it you?)

Yep good idea - keep the riff raff off the road so I can drive through smoothly.

NO NO NO
It's What Drippy and his colleagues want in Wales, to restrict us from travelling outside of 15 minutes from our area Stop new roads that are needed, then don't fund the council so they cut public transport. I can just about get to the nearest Market, Large Tesco, ASDA, or Morrisons by car5 in 15 minutes 10 minutes on the bus gets me near the nearest railway station

please don't think that 15 minutes is the limit to where you can travel to, that is just propoganda. 15 minutes is just the range of what you have for the majority of your needs. Is it so unreasonable to have some of your needs satisfied by only 15 minutes movement?
There is a lot of BS being talked about this and clearly not everyone can live like this, but guess the majority already do
I love having the core bits of my life with 15 minutes, I have the internet for all the rest and then I travel outside for other things. It is fine and no, there are no restrictions.

But we need to have roads for long distance travel with fast speeds and other types of roads for local travel with slower speeds. I know this is different to what many people believe but right now buses cannot get anywhere without queuing behind cars and cars cannot get anywhere for the same reason. If you keep mixing all the types together and you expect travellers to just fight for space you end in anarchy. Thank goodness for home-working or the roads really will stop.

But, then, you do a little digging and you see the crossovers between the protestors on this subject and the anti-covid, anti-climate... Basically, it's just the latest tickbox conspiracy.

quote from BBC website The concept is to improve quality of life by creating cities where everything a resident needs can be reached within a quarter of an hour by foot or bike. The 15-minute city requires minimal travel among housing, offices, restaurants, parks, hospitals and cultural venues. The concept of people being within 15 ninutes of a hospital on foot or by bike is a joke even in the big cities. I'm 25 minutes by car from any of the local hospitals 15 minutes to a cinema, 40 minutes from a music venue, or league football ground. there isn't even a restaurant within 15 minutes walk ( unless you count eating in Wetherspoons ) to me it feels like this was thought out by someone who wants the big brother world of us all living in cities with a deserted countryside.

We already live in a world where the vast majority of people congregate in urban environments. The reasons for that are many fold, but that is regardless. So its hardly a concept that is trying to force people out of rural areas, rather to better accomodate the needs of the majority of people who don't live in rural areas with facilities that are more accessible/closer/easy to transport to. Its not some form of conspiracy to drive people into a dystopian world.

I hate aggressive cycling and actually nudged one off in the Greenwich Tunnel (no cycling, only mobility scooters) . When he ran at me all the other pedestians gathered around him , so I did not get hit . Canary Wharf cyclists regulary bomb down this tunnel and have petitoned Greenwich Council to share permission , after all how can the poor dears get to work? Who'se been down there recently ,did they get it?

Quite. The industrial revolution started the move from rural to urban populations... Across the world, rural populations are falling, urban ones rising sharply. I have a feeling that we recently hit the 50/50 crossover point in the developing world, while the developed world crossed MANY decades ago. That's what THEY want you to think...

I'm quite happy for cyclists to share the footpath AS LONG AS THEY GET OFF AND PUSH THEIR BICYCLES . I'm sorry that the lady was squashed but she should not have been riding . The Judge should have been forced to consider that point . Both ladies were potty but the cyclist was not in control of her vehicle . The pedestrian will get off on appeal . Yes ,I do know the point of law.
