blimey the BBC can’t half put a negative spin on things When you take into account that we’ve all lost that £400 government help we received over the winter months, July’s new price cap is an annual saving of £26. Given that this announcement only covers one quarter, that’s a best-case saving of £6.50. But given that most of us use a lot less gas and electricity over the summer months, we’ll actually be seeing an even smaller difference in our bills – not much to write home about. This isn’t the major pressure relief that so many households are in need of but perhaps a sign that things aren’t getting any worse.
from www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/business-65699507Gas down 20% on the existing cap. even on a relatively low usage period ( April to May ) looking at my last bill it would drop by £7.40 plus VAT so £7.77 in a month. it’s all going to help and it will reduce the inflation figures

I think people assume that there aren't deals available and it's not worth shopping around. I'm not on the price cap and I pay around 22p a kW for electric. Tomorrow I've got a few hours of free electric.

Tracks day-ahead rates at 30 minute intervals (with some artificial fiddling early evening) These are my rates for the next day: mysmartenergy.uk/images/recent4N.pngThis is the first drop to zero i've seen in months (Image is regenerated over time so viewers from the future may may not see it!)

Yes, exactly that. There are times when it has been a couple of pence above the price cap at peak times, but the much lower price the rest of the day more than makes up for it. Presumably 'Agile Octopus'. Tracks day-ahead rates at 30 minute intervals (with some artificial fiddling early evening) These are my rates for the next day: mysmartenergy.uk/images/recent4N.pngThis is the first drop to zero i've seen in months, although rates are typically ~18p/kwhr these days

A quick look shows this at the top of the page... Important: Agile pricing during an energy crisis 👇 Octopus are famous for leading the way with our innovative collection of beta smart tariffs, helping bring cheaper and greener power to all our customers. We won't ever divert from our mission, but due to continued market volatility and the beta nature of this smart tariff we may need to restrict daily sign ups. You're still free to sign up below, and we'll let you know if this affects you joining Agile. In Winter '22-'23, a typical household on Agile paid around 35p/kWh on average (a little more than the average variable tariff). Agile prices can spike up to 100p/kWh any time – that's three times higher than most customers are paying right now. This tariff is best suited to customers who can shift large amounts of their energy use to avoid these expensive peaks, often by using smart home technologies like solar and batteries. Mmm. Not without some risk tho.

Well sure, any reactive tariff will have push and pull. Just as Agile Octopus or Octopus Tracker (same idea but rated day-by-day) prices will reduce weeks or months before conventional tariffs catch up, they can and do increase (although i'm not sure that's ever come close to £1) Scoff at the scheme if you like - I'm enjoying my cheap showers, and will just be dirty if the tables turn. Edit: Oh and octopus will let you switch tariffs pretty freely, so if you get cold feet you can be switched to a govt. price-capped tariff over night.

Feelin nostalgic, I remember the good old days of Agile, back in early 2020, when I could get my electricity for the day at a -ve price so the cost would be less than the standing charge. yes fill the battery at cheap (-ve) rate and run on it as long as possible. Average cost for Jan to April 2020 5pkWh, that jumped to 11p for the same period in 2021, fell to 8P in 2022 because I switched to Go
