More than 2,000 workers are to be made redundant after delivery firm Tuffnells Parcels Express went into administration.

I imagine that collecting parcels from whatever point they were at when operations halted will not be feasible for many customers! Not sure what would happen then, as I guess the parcels are still technically the property of the customers.

Not sure what would happen then, as I guess the parcels are still technically the property of the customers. The customers will be the retailers sending the parcels, or courier-brokers for lower-volume consignors. They'll be busy talking to other couriers, who will likely offer some kind of wholesale "collect from Tuffnells' warehouse and re-send" service. Tuffnells weren't exactly a major player - AIUI, they were fairly niche, and focussed on stuff too big for gig-man-in-van, too small for pallet.

adrianc Yeah, I suppose so.... I noticed they were listed as on option last time I used Parcel2Go to compare prices.A company I used to work for would use Tuffnells for sending rolls of fabric between its sites. From what I remember they weren't great, but they were the cheapest for that type of item. I guess they just didn't have the pricing power to pass on their rising costs.

I've had jam jars by the 100 delivered by them, and a few eBay purchases.

It's a shame. They've been about for years Considered to be a carrier specialised in out of gauge... ie horrible freight but cheap.
The margins in this industry are extremely tight reliant on volume.
I'm sending a parcel today with evri, £3,59 , they must work on really tight margins.
No doubt competing carriers will pick up the volume.
