Just had my home and contents insurance renewal. No claims, rebuild cost of 355k contents 55k. No cover for accidental damage on either. Rural postcode with 10k away from home cover. 250 excess and 1k excess for water damage. This year its £405. Up from 300. Did the usual comparison site checks and it's nearly the cheapest I can find. Friends and family seem to pay around 150 to 200. My area has no flood issues or crime increases. Are forum members experiencing same increases?

Yikes, my renewal quote is up 29%!
Have you been listening to those Radio adverts? Direct Line is not on comparison site and gives savings on multiple insurance policies.

Renewal quote from your current provider or from Gocompare, very different ? I've never had a renewal quote yet that hasn't been hiked.
Isn't there new legislation which stops insurers charging existing customers more than new customers or have they found a way round it already?

Apparently motor insurance is likely to increase 30%. The home insurers are blaming higher claims with higher values.

I heard those batteries are expensive and fragile. but if they are, what would they do if the regular car self-identifies as an EV ?
