so it appears at last we will get a review
amongst the BBC ideas a tax based on property value, rumour has it 0.1% of your house value every year,
another idea is a broadband tax added to your broadband bill. With the demise of PSTN lines many people who don't currently have broadband will have it by default. and I know a good 50% of the younger people round me have huge data allowances so don't have broadband or a landline.
the final one I've heard is adding £x to everyone's council tax bill, this one would have the advantage of meaning many on benefits would effectively get a free licence and save a lot of single mums on benefits ending up in court for nan payment.
IMHO the BBC should move to a subscription service where you can pay for all or part of it

Honestly I think we have product placement by stealth on the BBC watch a news report in the winter and they all have the same branded Jackets, ditto the presenters covering Winter sports
regularly during athletics events we are told "the next diamond league meeting is in Sheffield ( or wherever ) and tickets are still available"
lots of appearances on the one show, tracks of your years etc are pure plugs for new books, albums, films etc
on commercial channels they would pay, the BBC does it for free

Spot on. Why should they be any different from Sky, Netflix etc.

0.1% of house value. *cough*
Wow, if that happened I would definitely give up the tiny amount of recorded TV I watch.
And yes agree that subscription is the way to go. At the very least, don't force me to pay the BBC when all I want to watch is 20 minutes of a programme on Sky News every day.

0.1% of house value. *cough* Yeh, I don't think so... It'd mean an average of £286 at current house prices, up from £159. I'm going to guess that's a wet-finger number produced by one of the anti-BBC competitors... Oh, what a surprise - the only mention seems to be a passing comment by Richard Sharp to the Telegraph - with no number given. Small problem, Sharp was forced to resign months previously as BBC chair over the conflict of interest in arranging that loan for his buddy, BJ Piffle. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/07/07/wealthier-households-pay-more-bbc-licence-fee-richard-sharp/
