talking to one of my fellow allotment holders and shes had a "snotogram" from the Council
As part of an audit of bags sent to landfill, they had selected one of hers to be checked.
Shock horror they found recyclable materials in the bag namely a Yoghourt pot and a used tea bag, and she needs to stop putting recyclable material in general waste.
As she said she puts out about 1/2 a bag full of land fill every 3 weeks, and recycles everything else, yet the pick on her rather than others that put out 5 bags or have a wheelie bin that's full to overflowing.
but I have to say going through peoples landfill waste is not my idea of a job with career prospects

How did they know it was her's? Surely they all get mixed up and destroyed in the lorry. Or was it a random doorstep check, seems like a waste of someone's time if that's all the contraband they found.

Would be interesting down my street, as last night I know I had 2 bags out just before midnight as had my neighbour, this morning I went out and we both had 4 bags, so someone is sneakily adding their rubbish to other properties.

Yes they do audits occasionally. In our department they do waste analysis by selecting a number of bins and tipping it out on a table and separating various recyclables. Hence the percentage of waste to calculate green/brown/ landfill bin sizes required . Bin collection teams sometimes lift the bin lids to check but wont start taking through folks rubbish at street level.

Does seem excessive. I'm reasonably conscientious about what goes in which container, but sometimes I'm not too sure and don't waste my time checking the council website. Occasionally friends arrive clutching cardboard/plastic cups of coffee and, having consumed the contents, leave the empty containers behind. Sometimes they're marked recyclable, other times not.
As for tea bags, I tear these open and put them on my compost heap, having detached the string-thingy, only to come across the bag a year later when everything else had become "black gold". I think that now they've all become compostable?

Or, in my locality, emptying the overflowing litter bins.

Or, in my locality, emptying the overflowing litter bins. there's one old dear up from me that regularly carries a bucket full of assorted rubbish to the litter bin and dumps it in. I suppose it saves her from having to sort it

I suppose it saves her from having to sort it Laziness, lack of respect for her surroundings or plain ignorance of recycling needs. Wait until they start charging by weight! That's when you really will get to know the neighbours!!!
