I have an electric strimmer which has a charge meter on the battery, I plug it in and it will say 50 or whatever that climbs until it reaches 99, then the display changes to FU, I assume that's short for full or Full Up. but I could read it as something completely different

... until it reaches 99, then the display changes to FU... Nah, that's the engineer / developer in response to being told that they had to redesign it because they needed three digits now .

"If it's going to say '100', it'll cost 2p more per unit to manufacture." "So just have two digits" "But then the user'll never think it's fully charged, and it'll increase warranty returns." "So tell 'em it's full up in two characters..."

My little pulse oxymeter finger jobbie also only has two digits, so 99 is its limit. I suspect that's commonplace in bedside hospital monitors too. Battery capacity and oxygenation are unlikely to be an exact science, so a two digit display is plenty. Displaying FU to represent 100% just means you bought the super deluxe GT model.
