Just that!
Had a few people ringing saying I rang them. I didn't. What's going on?

Your phone number is being spoofed by a criminal to scam other people. It's that easy and just a numbers game... literally. It can't affect you but you could warn the people who call you back. I've only had it once.

Well, there are options.
a. answer all calls from unfamiliar numbers. b. ignore all calls from unfamiliar numbers. c. switch to do not disturb mode on your phone and answer numbers saved on your favourite list. d. add the unwanted numbers in your block list. e. get a new number f. switch off the phone.
After a while, they won’t call you.

benaj Unfortunately @greenwood2 is also a victim here, some miscreant is spoofing his number, this means his number could end up marked as spam and he may not be able to ring people he needs to speak to. I just hope they move on to using another number soon

Oh wait, I forgot to mention report to the service provider that the number has been used for spoofing and wait.
Definitely won’t let those spies listening to spoofed calls and give away personal details.
EDIT: That's what I did with my "landline" number, it was sorted out within 48 hours.

About the only thing you can do is change your number.
Are we talking landline or mobile number?

Landline. And would be very inconvenient to change it.
I have explained that it's not me calling, what is more worrying is I don't know what's being said to the people who actually answered their phone and what sort of scam is going on. The people I've spoken to have just returned a missed call so are as puzzled as me.
Hope they move on soon, and I don't have the police at my door for perpetrating some sort of scam.

The only things you can do is inform your phone provider so that the issue is on record, use answering machine to screen calls and pass on the message that the number has been spoofed and hope that the scammers move on soon.
The major issue with VOIP systems is that the outbound CLI number can simply be typed into the system so that it overrides the underlying number.
