Have a friend who is being made redundant as the business is closing.
he is moaning that
A) he can't afford his mortgage this month, what ! he's still employed and earning until the 31st, and is getting several months pay as redundancy.. B) they haven't taken his mental health into account when closing down and that he and others with mental health conditions should have been found other jobs. Like I said the business is closing down there are no jobs or does he expect the employer to get other firms to take staff on.

They're either trying to rip you off, or think the world owes them a living. I worry about you, I really do!

I'm slowly closing my circle of friends down, as yes I agree with you a fair few are odd or behave oddly. I've made a decision that I'd rather have a small number of straightforward mates than a bigger circle where a lot want babying, maybe the first move will be to get a new phone number

As an ex telecoms engineer who hates the concept of the always connected always available world , get a new mobile and give the number to nobody or as near as possible. I have a cheap tablet purchased from Facebook with cash, loaded with only one email address from some strange Dutch provider who is a bit security mad , never sent or received an email on it , never purchased anything on it , not loaded with any social media sites or banking details. Only used for browsing using an onion browzer. Now I am sure somebody somehow can identify me from it but it will be hard. Use it to access sites that I see recommended on my main device but feel uneasy in any way about and as a kind of get your noses out of my life to the large data gathering companies. The number of sites I cannot enter because the site cannot access my data or my IP address is frightening. And no I do not use it for porn the security settings on the browser mean I cannot stream any video content , something to do with security flaws in the video software used. So how safe is my device, any thoughts from any ex software experts out there.

The other end HAS to see an IP address - it's how they send the data back to you that you ask them for. That IP is allocated to your router by the ISP, semi-dynamically. It'll change, but very rarely (you might get a different one if your router was turned on after being off for a few days, or you'll get one if they re-jig their network). Anything beyond that - just put your normal browser into incognito or privacy mode. Cookies will be binned when you close the tab. Any decent modern browser sandboxes tabs anyway, and I presume you use an adblocker... Assuming the tablet is an Android one, then if it's not signed into a google account, you're not going to have any updates on it, either - so a pile of known browser and OS exploits - because updates require logging in to google...

In the case of "an onion browser" that isn't correct. The target website will see an ip address of course but that will be the last in a long chain of proxies.

In the case of "an onion browser" that isn't correct. The target website will see an ip address of course but that will be the last in a long chain of proxies. It still sees an IP address. If you're going via a VPN (and that's all "onion" is, a series of VPNs), then you're right - it will see the IP of the endpoint, rather than your router. I leave it as an exercise for the reader to decide how big a breach of security an IP address is. If you're worried about GeoIP, then my current exernal IP resolves to the middle of a field five miles away.

Being a reasonably gregarious type I suddenly had a thought that I was always the one mostly doing the contacting and keeping in touch. You know, making the effort. So I decided to immediately stop contacting people, everyone, and wait and see who got in touch. My thinking was that friends would quickly begin to wonder why they hadn't heard from me, so out of concern would make contact to enquire of my wellbeing. I now run with around 30% of my former circle of "friends" from twelve years ago, some 50+% I still haven't heard from.

Look mate, it was enough of a wrench to give you an uptick, and that was only because it's nearly Christmas. Jeez, cobber, don't push it. [/Oz accent]

[/Oz accent] Add to that personal experience, when Mum had her stroke and was in Hospital and then a Nursing home for over 3 years some of her long term friends ie 30-40 years made no effort to see her or even ask dad how she was, what was upsetting was them then turning up at the funeral and acting sad. Events like this show how self centred many people are,

I found those phv drivers are so self centred and not so friendly lately.
At peak hours, up to 80% of them working to drive for on demand app would reject riding request for standard rates. A PHV car is expected to seat 4 passengers, but these not so caring drivers would set the seats only one passenger can fit in the car. No matter if you paid extra for leg room.
