We took the train for our main holiday this year:
Home-London-Brussels-Cologne-Copenhagen-Stockholm, then overnight ferry to Tallinn to join a small group tour finishing in Vilnius.
Return Vilnius-Warsaw-Berlin-Brussels-London-Home.
It helps to be retired so you can take your time and make the trip part of the holiday, including some 2 night stopovers.
All legs passing through Germany were booked with Deutsche Bahn int.bahn.de/en/ . I used Swedish Rail and Lithuanian Rail for the others.
