Lies Dammed Lies and statistics ...
Part of the justification on the consultation for a big increase in Council tax ( 5-10% ) is the significant rises in Gas and electricity prices since last April. I went to the public consultation AKA Farce. I challenged them and they insist prices are up I showed them figures showing it was down but they won't have it.
Love the way they twist things we have one of the highest Council taxes in the UK and the highest in Wales at close to £2,200 for a band D, however they spin it as we pay the lowest average by dividing the total council tax ( less the council tax support ) by the number of properties.
I challenged why on the form the lowest increase we could vote for was 5% and was told "people will vote for a low number" so no point asking that question then...
another claim we got the 15th lowest increase in support grant from the Welsh Government in percentage terms, LOL 15th lowest is 7th highest, but that doesn't fit the narrative

Yes, that seems like some very canny manipulation of statistics.
£2,200 for a band D is very high indeed.
In case it helps you feel any better, many millions of people in this country pay no council tax whatsoever as they can't be bothered to work or save, so that's why yours is higher than it needs to be.

That's quite an aspiration though isn't it? I'd love to play golf, potter around on the boat and generally take it easy without worrying about such annoying things as working for someone else.

I have no idea how people got hired for working this side of the government.
I know one council could not collect council tax for over 15+ months due to IT glitch, so people who moved in could not pay council tax. 🙄
Could their CVs “errorenous” about their qualifications and experience?

LOL don't even start me on that scared cow BG collects £39 million and spends £10 million on council tax support so 1 in 5 pays nothing ( as I assume the £10 million isn't counted on both sides ) BG is one of the most deprived areas of the UK with low wages, very few businesses employing skilled labour, so food factories, pack houses, shops, care work is the vast majority. so as a percentage of household income even a band A is a big percentage of wages. Median Salary is around 22% below UK average. median house price is about 5 times income compared to 8.8 for UK. for me greedy landlords are an issue couple near me have just been told the rent is going up £150 a month to £800 5 years ago they were paying £300. the average seems to be about £800 for a 2-3 bed property. that's getting on for 50% of average household income and add in another £100 for average council tax £200 for gas and electric, water etc etc there often isn't much left given many of these properties were purchased by the landlords for £40-50,000 then nearly £10k a year represents a 20-25% annual return If people had the deposit then given you cab buy properties here for 100-120k at 5% interest that under £6000 a year so buying a property with a low start repayment would be as cheap as renting but they don't have that £10k deposit
