Interesting article in today's FT about the increasing demand for pawnbroking among the 'well-heeled', including the benefits of pawnbroking over more traditional forms of credit (And noting also the low LTVs demanded by the posh pawnbrokers and the declining demand for fancy watches, 'where average prices have fallen for seven straight quarters.')

Interesting, I wonder the cost of this secured storage facility. Or is it waiting for another big insurance claim for a foreseeable claimable event?

This reminds me of a thread I saw many years ago on an airline forum, where they were discussing the impact of a recession on rich people:
- in the good old days the Lord and Lady of the manaor would fly first class, while the nanny would take the children in economy.
- after the recession the Lord of the manor would fly first class while his wife took the children in economy.

There used to be a TV show about this sort of thing: Posh PawnI just looked it up and the first episode aired September 2013! "Most pawn shops would never see a customer walk in to pawn a Lamborghini, but not this one. That is the type of item customers bring into Prestige Pawnbrokers, which specialises in high-end pawn transactions. Expensive and exclusive items are the norm for the staffers at the Surrey-based shop. Because they're dealing with high-priced items, the staff have to make sure the items they're buying are authentic rather than just cheap knock-offs. In addition to expensive cars, high-end jewellery, handbags and even a mini-submarine are items that are brought to Prestige." And who could forget Pawn Stars UK a reality TV show based on Regal Pawn...with an infamous Spice Boy as their "director". The company died in mysterious circumstances after a flurry of resignations and confusing ownership changes but the remnants of their FCA authorisation lived on
