Donald Trump cannot find a private company to guarantee the $464m (£365m) he has been ordered to pay in a New York civil fraud case. The former president must either pay the full amount in cash or secure a bond in order to continue his appeal.
The penalty will keep accruing interest by at least $112,000 per day until he pays.
Wrong thread - this should be in the "things that amused me" thread... Strange, isn't it, how somebody with "$400m in liquid assets" and "worth $2.5bn" can't raise the funds to pay the fine for... systematically lying about his wealth in order to raise funds...

Compared to many on here i'm poor, total value of my assets £300-350,000, and I don't keep 20% in liquid assets. I have about £12,000 in the bank and a chunk in stocks and shares that I could easily liquidate, My understanding is the DT wants someone to put up the whole $464 and take the risk in exchange for payment ( that may never come ). now if I wanted to pay £100,000 for something I would keep £2-3000 of my liquid assets as a rainy day fund put the rest in and borrow the remaining amount so in DT's position put up $264m of my liquid assets and borrow the other $200m. Of course he will claim ( and surprised he hasn't ) that it's because big business linked to the deep state want to stop him ) anyone know what would happen if after the candidates are announced he's found guilty and thus unable to stand, I see several possibilities he still stands on anti corruption ticket and wins, the electoral college then ( rightly IMO ) refuses to confirm him, there is a sock puppet candidate that everyone knows is him, The Republican party gets a bit of sense and replaces Trump. Reading a US article this morning some are suggesting the remote possibility that Trump is disqualified, and that Biden dies before the election. Apparently Harris is so disliked even among democrat supporters that it is unlikely she would become the Democrat candidate, especially if Trump were not the Republican candidate. Don't forget both candidates are already above the average life expectancy in the US. indeed looking at tables it's 4/6 Trump would die in office and 2/1 that Biden would.

Biden is slim - certainly by US standards - and keeps active. Trump is obese, does not keep active, and has an utterly s**t diet (by all accounts). Trump must be a walking CVD/stroke ticking bomb.

I don't understand this no money claim at all. Jared Kushner got bunged 2 billion $ by the Saudi bone-sawer to buy The Mango Moron's favour. Why doesn't he borrow a bit of that? See my previous thread - I think its deliberate. But Adrian's take on it was quite funny too... I think it is unlikely to be deliberate. For several reasons. 1. It's against his public image to appear a bit 'broke'. After all, he's the gazillion trillion billionaire business boffin. Who bankrupted 6 casinos. 2. Not being able to cough up the readies for his appeal means he won't be able to appeal. Unless a court overturns the decision that he has to pony up the lot as security for the appeal. 3. in no more than a few days time, the NY AG can start seizing his assets if he doesn't appeal (and put the dosh up for that) or pay the fine (+interest). As much as Trump likes to play the victim of some left wing socialist democratic conspiracy, losing chunks of his property empire he will view as humiliating. 4. Of course his lawyers have already filed to either waive or reduce the bond/surety he needs to put up to file an appeal. That entailed them making a sworn filing as to why it has not proven possible. Sworn testimony, by his lawyers. So if that was a tissue of lies and they had not made the attempts they claim, his lawyers would I'm sure be laying themselves open to action (contempt of court ? removal of NY license to practise ?). Now of course we know that The Orange Dumpster doesn't give a **** about his lawyers, but they probably care about themselves. "The former president has been unable to secure the full bond, his lawyers said in the court filing on Monday, calling it a “practical impossibility” despite “diligent efforts.” Those efforts included approaching about 30 companies that provide appeal bonds, and yet, the lawyers said, he has encountered “insurmountable difficulties.”“Critical among these challenges is not just the inability and reluctance of the vast majority of sureties to underwrite a bond for this unprecedented sum, but, even more significantly, the unwillingness of every surety bond provider approached by Defendants to accept real estate as collateral,” Alan Garten, the Trump company’s general counsel, wrote in a sworn submissionNone of which of course precludes someone or something emerging from the woodwork before the deadline is up.

He's used the courts over 3500 times but he's not a criminal (! for anyone who had their sarcasm removed when they were young). He files motions like people pass motions, similar levels of .
There are news channels in the US which use President Trump in their headlines. What kind of deluded pointless existence are their employees and viewers living ? Do they watch cartoons for their reality fix?

He's used the courts over 3500 times but he's not a criminal. Well, hold on... He was literally found guilty of criminal fraud. He says he's going to appeal, but it appears he can't afford to. True, the charge of sexual assault he was found guilty of was only by a civil burden of proof due to statutes of limitations issues - but he was also found guilty of criminal defamation over the case, with the jurors agreeing with the civil verdict On top of that, the businesses he controls have been found guilty of an assortment of criminal and civil charges over the years, and he's settled many others (going back to the 70s) out of court. So, yes, he is unarguably a criminal.

But that is not relevant to their future life expectancy at current age. They could be near average for their cohort, or outliers in either direction. Past performance and all that. At age 77, based on population level data Trump's life expectancy is approx. 9.3 years, whereas at 81 Biden's is 7.3 years*. But I would be utterly unsurprised if Biden lived longer than the average for his age, and Trump less than the average. *from actuarial data which is based on 2020 data.
