This time last year a small parcel signed for second class was £4.69 and included insurance to £50 Last week a small parcel signed for second class was £4.69 and included insurance to £50 Now £5.09 and the insurance is only £20.
the quoted option to get > £20 insurance use the special delivery pre 1PM at £8.95
I picked up the our prices leaflet
500g 2nd signed for £5.09 £20 insurance 500g pre 1PM £8.95 £750 insurance
options I wasn't given 500g Royal mail tracked 24 hour £4.79 500g Royal mail tracked 48 hour £3.89 both have £150 of insurance 500g Royal mail tracked and signed 24 hour £6.19 500g Royal mail tracked and signed 48 hour £5.29 both have £150 of insurance
so the royal mail tracked and signed 48 @ £5.29 is the nearest equivalent to second signed for last week, just 60p more expensive, just 60p or nearly 14% £1.40 to get a signature seems dammed expensive.

stops ebay buyers saying not received If the tracking says 'delivered' then the buyer will lose an Item Not Received case. I sell a lot of uninsurable ceramics. Without insurance I can send a 1kg parcel, fully tracked for £2.75. Have you looked at buying your postage online? It's a bit cheaper and you can print your label at the P.O.

Any sort of tracked delivery now always has a photo from the driver to prove delivery, no need to spend the extra for a signature as none of the delivery firms that come to my shop will let you sign the little machine anymore.. still operating om covid rules it seems.
Evri are still cheap as chips and for an extra quid will pick up from your house.

options I wasn't given
500g Royal mail tracked 24 hour £4.79
500g Royal mail tracked 48 hour £3.89 both have £150 of insurance
500g Royal mail tracked and signed 24 hour £6.19
500g Royal mail tracked and signed 48 hour £5.29 both have £150 of insurance
apparently not available at my post office ! I have to print the labels and drop them at the delivery office which is only open 8-10AM, that's an extra mile and a half each way so becomes non sensible to walk
looks like EVRI or another service will be my chosen one.
Evri won't insure what I sell. "excluded from compensation for damage or loss "
fedEx drop off closer than PO and cheaper

"excluded from compensation for damage or loss " fedEx drop off closer than PO and cheaper You may not be able to buy Tracked 24/48 at the Post Office but you can buy it online via Ebay, Royal Mail online or one of the discounters (Parcel2Go etc) and then post it at any Post Office. If you're selling on eBay then T24/T48 tracking is good enough to prove delivery and win any Item Not Received case, there's no need to pay extra for a signature.
T48 is £3.39 for up 2kg (there are size limits) when bought online. I believe they will currently collect it from your house and bring a label for free. You can use Parcel2go to buy Evri (you can post these at most P.O) and Yodel (tend to be in convenience stores) at a discount, and chose if you want insurance or not. The cheapest is * Yodel at £2.75 for up to 1Kg, with no insurance against loss or damage. * Currently Evri via Parcel2go at £2.70, no insurance, Ebay compliant tracking and can be dropped off at some Post Offices.
