3% down in a week...
it's all swings and roundabouts anyway.

adrianc hearing rumours that some other benefits may be means tested and some may be stopped at pension age I'm hearing DLA, and PIP may be inline, another anomaly is the cold weather allowance So back to my 2 pensioners A who gets Pension credit and B who doesn't but because of the way Pension credit works they have around the same income if this winter we have 4 cold (qualifying ) weeks in December A will now get another £25 a week in cold weather payments, over the winter this means A will be £400 better off than B

In the good old days 2 years ago plus I did not have an energy bill, infact made a token profit. Solar panels and a log burner using free wood worked out roughly. Out goings to energy company £1200 pa In comings £1000 fit solar panel payments £300 winter fuel allowance and any cold weather payments a bonus. Energy cost inflation being above rpi and the loss of the benefit now means a overall cost of about £400 a year instead of a £100 profit The logical side of me understands the reasonableness of the loss of winter fuel allowance, BUT ☹️. Maybe I should look at the economics of a solar battery again.

Maybe I should look at the economics of a solar battery again. Ok my two pennyworth as someone who has a battery go for a battery around 80% of a days usage or a little more. Make sure that they set it up to work in EPS / UPS Mode - Powers the house if you have a power cut. mine is setup to power the sockets other than in the kitchen, I was offered a choice of 1 set of sockets or lights - LOL easy I can plug a light into a socket can't plug TV into a light fitting. Look at your supplier and Tariffs - I'm with Octoplus on Flux, but lots make agile work or of course Go / IOG if you have an EV I charge my battery at less than 15p at this time of year I force the battery to discharge at peak rate and earn nearly 23p a unit. lets say a 10kW battery pack costs you £2250 and has a 15 year life ( most should do more ) £2250 / 15 £150 a year. charge at 15p to allow for loses call it £1.65 that same 10kW on SVT would cost £2.30 saving 65p a day £237 a year discharge 5kWh a day at 22p instead of 15p profit 25p a day ( but lets say only 200 days a year ) £50 a year £287 so a return in < 8 years the difficult to calculate costs, solar producing 1KW battery part charged, you put kettle or washing machine on the system uses the battery to provide the energy you solar isn't then when heating cycle stops the solar tops up the battery, without the battery you would be drawing from the grid. The DFS saving sessions last year paid me to discharge the battery at certain times I made over £90 - I don't count this in calculations as the system can change. Personally I'm sure that TOU tariffs are here to stay and battery charging will always be significantly cheaper than normal use. the reason I use Octopus tariffs throughout is I'm an Octopus customer who knows their tariffs well, similar may be available from other suppliers
