2 weeks ago I ordered 2 gallons of white vinegar ( it being the pickling season ) delivered the next day and indeed I collected it
Amazon are saying I have to collect by Thursday or it will be returned for a refund
So I ring Amazon and explain, I got told the system is right, I can't have collected my item so it will be returned and I will get a refund. So I explain again I have the item I don't want a refund as I want to pay for it
"blah blah our system says you have not collected it, as such it will be returned and you will get a refund" And if the item isn't at the collection point "But it will be ... in any case it will be returned and you will be refunded" so if it can't be scanned as its not there what happens "we will assume it's been lost or stolen and issue you a refuind"
ok then I give up goodbye

fwiw I've always found Amazon's support very helpful.

About 18 months back I had ordered 2x something from Amazon which I needed to return [special walking sticks for my father, which he decided he didn't like] . Which I duly did. They refunded my account. But then I started getting emails telling me that the item hadn't been returned, and if it wasn't returned they would reverse the refund. Doing some forensics, I realised the amount they were talking about was for x1. So most obvious explanation is that they had processed the return but only processed for x1, not x2. I contacted them online to advise. They acknowledged and said they would stop[ the reversal. But the money got deducted again anyway. I had to go through another iteration with them to get it sorted. But nonetheless I thought overall they were OK and it was easier than I feared it might be.

I've been paying for Prime for years - I like their delivery which is pretty reliable and fast. Their customer service is a pain. You get the feeling you're not talking (via PM in my case) to a decision maker but simply someone who has a few more rights than you do within the Amazon system.

My experience with Amazon is ok. Even the family member without the prime membership, the useless items were refunded without hassles. No need to send them back because the quality is so bad.
Items from overseas sellers of course. I wouldn’t have bought myself, but the one using the app couldn’t understand what to avoid.

Not only do you get your vinegar but you get your money back. You've tried to tell them, but they'd rather believe their computer than you. So, free vinegar is the end result. Enjoy your pickled onions when they're ready!

I once ordered a storage card for a camera, it was delayed, I wanted it to use on holiday and it was now going to arrive too late. I rang up and the guy was very apologetic, and offered to refund me and then said just keep the card when it arrives. Money back and card although too late for holiday.

I find Amazon Prime mostly excellent, but I do have one major gripe. My "Alexa" device will often say when playing music something about joining Amazon Music. All someone has to say is "Yes" and the account is immediately upgraded by several pounds a month. The person saying "yes" could actually be replying to a question about something quite different from someone else in the room, and it could be any casual visitor who has no idea what they just signed up the account holder for.

A few years back I was running a home server with multiple hard disks. 3x had been purchased from Scan.co.uk and the 4th was from Amazon.
One failed and I believed it was the one from Amazon, phoned up and confirmed the disks serial number to be told "it wasn't purchased from Amazon". "No worries, I'll issue a refund"
What
"You've been a great customer over the years, we want to keep it that way !"
Needless to say Amazon has been my first port of call going forward.......

I got an unexpected present from Amazon years ago from Amazon Locker when picking up my purchase. Free Bose Speakers with a card explaining it was given out for free. I wasn’t loyal at the time.
