Well hardly an accident my OH had the front bumper and wing of her car bent and scratched by someone parking in front of her.
Looking at the pictures of the other car it has damage all the way from the back bumper to the front wing ( Ie it must've scraped for a few seconds )
Driver of the other car ( middle aged lady ) said she would pay for the repairs, rather than go through insurance Car needs a new bumper, the wing can be "pushed out" and resprayed.
Other driver is now saying she will only pay 1/2 of the cost as she has seen a scratch on the opposite side of the bumper that she didn't do and so the car would be in better condition.
my view is that my OH should say "ok, lets do it through insurance" the Quote is under £1,000 but with insurance she would get a courtesy car, and given earlier in the year the rear bumper was damaged by a delivery truck and that was 2 weeks in garage, so the courtesy car would be £500 or so.
any advice

If she doesn't dispute it was her fault she pays it all. And it's her that doesn't want to go through insurance for some reason. A bit of a cheek really. It's not like your demanding a new wing.

How far do you trust the other driver?
If the answer is anything but "totally", then insurance.
'course, that does mean declaring it on quotes for the next five years...

"only pay half because..." is an irrelevance. The comeback is: I was happy living with the minor issue I had before hand. I can't live with the damage as now. The fact that the prior "damage" will get fixed in the process is an irrelevance: its just a side effect of having to now repair the damage you've done. You'd have the same bill whether that original scratch was there nor not.
Oh, and if we go through insurance, you'll be paying 100% anyway. So just wind it in.

Well, my car has recently been damaged by another driver. I didn't realise it was damaged until I found a note on my windscreen. The woman left me a number to follow up. My rear bumper and light was damaged while she pulled out in front of my parked car.
So I rang and the other person on the phone said she would pay directly instead of going through insurance. I explained to her it's really expensive to pay for the repair and it's probably cheaper to claim insurance. Then I was told she was driving the hire van so she rang the hire van company to sort it out.
One day later, the hire van company called back and said they didn't want to go through insurance because insurance would make both parties pay a lot so they offer to repair my car at their own cost.
At the end, I was given a Range Rover Sport as a courtesy car and the car was repaired within 72 hours. Much better than the insurance route.

had 2 quotes, one 50% higher than the other.
She's agreed to pay the full cost of the lower estimate

Sat in the carpark of the local medical practice . Some sick old f*** drove in bumped into almost everything, parked and then bumbled off . I took his number and posted it on the village websight. ....nothing . I expect the police to arrive and lecture me on hate crime.

Probably 18 or so years ago I had someone of an age who shouldn't be driving go into my car. Well I say go into, more like concertinaed it. The most interesting parts of this were a) I wasnt' in the car b) my car wasn't in the road. It was London and I'd rented a parking space from a nearby neighbour so that I no longer needed to park on the roadside. Partly motivated by my having a previous car written off overnight while using on-street parking. The irony was not lost on me Anyway, apparently this guy in his eighties was doing his even older friend a favour by giving him a lift to the doctors. Problem was he managed to confuse the brake and accelerator pedals. And forgot how to steer in a straight line. Managing to leave the road and go into the back of my car slamming it against the building it was parked in front of. I'd had the car for about 1 month, from new.

5eminds me of an incident in sainsburys
little old lady tries to park hits car on her left, so I got my phone out to take a picture, then switched to video
She reversed, hit the same car again, reversed and hit the one on the right, reverses and hits the one behind, and drives away, she then parked elsewhere, she actually tried to get the video not allowed in court ( She refused to accept responsibility ) as I'd "filmed without her permission"

Try look at these accidents from another perspective, no one is physically hurt. No deaths, no permanent injuries. Peace.
The car attack happened in another country / the one in a bridge of our capital in 2017 were just madness.

It doesn’t mean the car insurance see it from your perspective. Many accidents have split liabilities. 75/25, 50/50 even when we think we are not at fault.
