By now lots of us must have sampled the lovely new website. Have you seen the comments on the official blog? Not liked by many, including me.
It reminds of the hoo-hah there was in this forum when RateSetter and AC modernised their sites. What is it about web-site designers that they believe they must kow-tow to the smartphone/tablet mafia? Anyway their systems can tell what type of device is being used, so why cannot we all be accommodated to best effect? Or they could design specific apps for mobile devices.
What am I missing?

You are right, mobile friendly pages are just too simple, I just came from bbc.co.uk and whereas I'd normally read about 5 or 6 articles, this time I didn't read any, simply due to bad layout.

Agreed. Ditto Bloomberg's website. It used to be a great site that was easy to navigate around. Now it is too "in-your-face". Massive pictures everywhere and no logic.... which is a shame as some of their financial journalism is top class. Out at lunch with one of their presenters, she said "I don't used it but really surprised that you don't like it. Our web developers think that it is great." I think that says it all

Call me cynical but sometimes I think they redesign things just to have something to do.

My BBC homepage is very slow these days........no news about the Downing Street cats lately either . Edit; They could be staying over at the Zopa cattery, some cats seem to stay there forever! visitors are also allowed IIRC.

Often it's change for the sake of errr change. New kids on the block and all that. All those new sayings - 'Do you have a window in your diary' - 'Let's run it up the flagpole and see who salutes' - 'Blue sky thinking' - etc, etc - the list is endless.
Just look at what Micro$oft did with Win7 - Win8 (widely rejected) and now being quietly buried before they launch Win10. Hmmm.............

Maybe the same idiots who think "The News" has to be made exciting so it must have music like in Star Wars and a constant mindless thrumming and/or drumming at every opportunity. My complaint on the survey they offered me "to tell them what I think of the BBC" did not receive a reply.

Ugh it really is awful, I initially thought it was just different on mobile devices. The sport page seems unaffected at least.
edit talking of bad websites, I recently returned to ratesetter to add funds for the first time in a long while and couldn't even find where to login!

This site is almost equal to the old BBC site but lacks the option for local news uk.reuters.com/ Better than the new BBC news website. Reuters

The time has surely come for the bloated and incompetent BBC to be put out to pasture. The idea of forcing every person in the land to pay £140 a year for a service almost nobody values as highly as (eg.) Netflix and which provides a fraction of the content of the Channel 4 constellation of stations or indeed YouTube, is outdated not to mention immoral.

I've always thought it odd that you have to pay for a tv license if you just watch, for example, Sky but how would they know? Personally (aside from the new bbc website) I think I get good value out of it. Good tv programmes imo with no adverts, I listen to R4 and enjoy the sport commentary. How much does netflix cost and what do you get for that?

Whilst I object to financially supporting an audio visual version of the Graudian, I have to say that the BBC does produce some top notch programmes especially on BBC4.
