Sounds like a Ferrite Core. Flaky Cod may have one of those in its ICL1900

I was very impressed by the lights on the 360/50 and the wall of 2314s. Setting the operator alert alarm bell was fun too. Honeywell tape drives were better though because they featured read backwards which was jolly handy for sorting.

We had an old bank of 2311 drives which we used to play table tennis on! Most upset when they were swapped (bartered) for some software licences!! Tape sorts were always the thing to put on when you needed to show someone the computer room!!
