I collect and restore vintage synthesisers and keyboards, currently I have around 15 in various states of (dis)repair, but I've never learned to play them.

I've eaten a MacDonalds in 31 countries (outside the UK). I don't even particularly like MacDonalds. It's a tradition I started as a teenager

When I was 28 I achieved the fastest recorded speed of 16.8kts helming the superyacht Blue Leopard (under sail) whilst taking her round from Largs (Scotland) to Malta.
(This was just before we got hit with storm force 10 winds & 10m waves in the Bay of Biscay with just myself and a Kiwi friend doing 2 hours on and 2 hours off on the helm for 48hrs straight whilst the storm went through. Completely exhausting but probably the most fun I have had in my life.)

Nice bikes, Bagman ! I only stretched to a 1958 350cc single cylinder Matchless (incidentally, it was sold again in restored condition last month to a guy in the north-east for £2975). gc I was pulled up by the police in south-east London for doing 38mph ..... on a Honda C50!!! When they realised the size of the bike they laughed and let me go. Fame? I have pictures of Grandad Grumps walking along talking to King George VI, with Grandma behind with the Queen Mother. Stravinsky's wife (I thought) stopped him signing my autograph book (it turned out that years later I discovered it was his mistress!). Quentin Blake taught me English, briefly (I think he must have been doing a teaching practice).

I think I remember Blue Leopard being in Malta in 1969, when I bought a 42ft wooden motorsailer there which my wife and I took back to Falmouth the following year with our 2 small children who are now in their 50s. 112ft is an awful lot of boat for two people to handle even in good weather. Blue Leopard was also moored in the Hamble in 1974 when we bought the boat in my avatar, a Moody Cavalier which we took through the French canals and down the Rhone to Port Grimaud in the golfe de St Tropez.

I believe she was built in the early 60s so you may well have seen her. One of the best boats I have sailed and amazingly responsive on the helm for a boat of her size and weight. (There were 5 others on board, including a chef, an engineer and some extra muscle. Just two of us on the helm for the tricky bits.)

Nah, can't be the same one. Apparently it has a top speed of only 14knots, presumably with a speed governor fitter :-) MoneyThing: Ed, did the owner know you had been pushing it 'outside the envelope' ?

Great value - I know she used to be up for €2,500,000. If any of the investors are tempted - I would happily look after her for you!

2.5mio was the [insert name of platform renowned for over-valuing] valuation. Now it's sensibly valued on MoneyThing terms

Luckily he was pleased enough that he invited me back to race with him on his Classic Fife boat. (Had we brought Blue Leopard back to Malta with any breakages I am sure it would have been a different story)
